One Life to Live: Patricia Mauceri Out, Saundra Santiago In!

    Monday, June 29 2009

    Saundra Santiago (Broadway World)
After being with the show in her role as Carlotta Vega since 1995, Patricia Mauceri has suddenly left the show, leaving ABC to confirm to, "The role of Carlotta has been recast with Saundra Santiago."

Saundra actually appeared on One Life to Live back in 2004 as Angelina Parades/Isobella Santi, had a three year stint on Guiding Light as Carmen Santos and played the role of Jean Cusamano from 1999 to 2007 on the HBO hit series "The Sopranos." looks forward to seeing Saundra making her transition into her new role!

The news sprang to life over the weekend, and although won't comment on rumors as to why the actress left, or was let go, we do want to wish Patricia the very best and thank her for making Carlotta a character who we all loved!

I'm kind of sad she's gone from the show...

I think this would be the place for Ms. Mauceri to respond to and expand on things other publications have already made public... that she quit because she refused to participate in the Kyle/Fish gay storyline. I can't believe that she would do such a biggotted thing and this wonderful actress needs to refute this story before it spreads any more. It has already been printed in the New York Daily News, one of the country's largest circulation dalies. If it is true, however, shame on her.

She's kinda young to be Chris and antonio's Mother!!! huh!

From what I read on Soap Central she actually has already commented on the situation. She said she personally has nothing against the gay community, but she felt her character would not be quite so accepting of the lifestyle. I can understand where she thinks Carlotta might react that way at first because of the character's strong religious background. Over time I think she would've learned to be okay with it, but apparently they were wanting Carlotta to be gung ho about it fron the start. It's sad they are passing on such a strong storyline but I guess it won't be the first time that's happened.

I agree that Carlotta wouldn't be accepting of this for awhile, but would eventually come around. I think it's pretty obvious, tho, that as all soaps are struggling to gain viewership from younger crowds and seeing whom is replacing Patricia, that age was a big factor and storyline is simply being blamed. Too bad. Thank you Patricia Mauceri....I loved your Carlotta!

I agree with her perspective that Carlotta would not be accepting and would need time to adjust. The writers should attempt to stay true to the characters...THAT has nothing to do with being a biggot! Grow up and realize that some actors have enough about the story to understand that the fans would not believe that Carlotta would suddenly think being gay is wonderful.....not after we all know how strong a role her religion is to the character. Kinda like true life...the writer should shown more care for the potential gain from having the character NOT be positive and show her growth and understanding. That would be a more positive outcome for society! But since they have chosen to expect eveyone to accept the new gay story line.....that is NOR REASON to bash a wonderful actor for standing up for what she feels is right!

I wish that Patricia was not leaving the show or what ever. I really liked her and will be sad to see her not there. I wish her the very best.

I read that the original actress who portrayed her was released because she didn't want to be involved in the gay story line between Fish and Kyle'es charectors because it violated her personal values.
