Ashley Wilkens Appears on One Life to Live!

    Tuesday, August 19 2008

    Ashley Wilkens (ABC)
On Wednesday, August 20, 2008, Ashley Wilkens will make her acting début on One Life to Live!

Appearing as the assistant to Starr's (Kristen Alderson) OBGYN, this eighteen year old is closer to the current underage pregnancy storyline than a lot of people know. At the age of sixteen, Ashley became pregnant and chose adoption for her unborn child - much like Kristen's character is planning right now. Since finding a loving family to adopt her baby, Ashley now works alongside the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy with the sole purpose to help other teens who are going through what she's endured and to let them know that adoption is a wonderful choice for young girls who are leaning toward making the same decision as she chose. Ashley has appeared on the Montel Williams Show and has also talked openly with People Magazine about her story.

Soaps.com wants to thank Ashley for taking part in such a controversial storyline and for being a role model for the many teens out there who are struggling with their own pregnancies. We all know the information is out there for the young girls of our country, but seeing Ashley, a real-life example, is sure to comfort a lot of them who are experiencing the same circumstances in their lives.

Good for her. I admire that.

My prior comment was accidentallly deleted.

I hardly think teen pregnancy deserves a part on a soap as a reward.

    cynical bill,

I don't think this is the point the show is trying to get across. As with Starr's storyline, this is another great avenue for the show to help with public awareness...

I admire what she has done, I also believe this is promoting teenage pregancy, it is telling them if you get pregant there are options. the option is not do have sex to early

Some people don't realize that sex education is schools only talk to teens about abstinence. But realistically teens are curious and if we don't teach them to be safe in schools who will, the parents who think "not my child, my child isn't having sex". They are the ones who are have sex and getting pregnant. You always hear "I never thought my child would be a statistic" or "We talked about sex but he/she said they weren't active".

Soaps tend to go off the deep end sometimes, like the 1968 storyline or dead sticking around, but they often hit the topics that need to be talked about like AIDS, mental health, heart attacks, multiple personalities, and even teen pregnancy. At least OLTL has shown that you have choices, abortion is not the only option.

Everyone thinks she is a hero for doing this but he never included her family in her decision, in fact, she lied to all of us until the papers were signed. At least they have Starr including her mother. I was left out of the loop by Ashley.
