One Life to Live actress Tika Sumpter (Layla Williamson)! Recently, Tika took some time out to stop by Soaps.com and chat about the show, her singing career, working with Tobias Truvillion (Vincent) and she even gave those looking to pursue a profession in acting a little piece of advice! So grab a cup of coffee and sit back as we take you through this exclusive interview with one of daytime's hottest up and coming stars…
Amy: Prior to your role on One Life to Live you did a lot of modeling and commercials. How cool was it to land your first big role with the popular soap?
Tika: “Oh my gosh! I was so excited to be working, and also to be working with people who I have seen on T.V. when I was a kid. I am still excited and grateful.”
Amy: What was the hardest part about getting used to acting on a daily basis? Did any of it come easy to you?
Tika: “Remembering so many lines in such a short amount of time and still being able to convey emotion at the same time. It was a challenge at first, but now, it’s like second nature.”
Amy: Is there any particular actor on the show who you looked up to before becoming a part of the cast?
Tika: “Kassie DePaiva [Blair]. She was the one I saw on T.V. when I was younger, years later, who would have thought I’d get to work with her? Goodness, I’m lucky!”
Amy: Can you give us a brief rundown of what a normal day on the set entails for you?
Tika: “It depends on what time rehearsals begin, usually early in the morning. I start with rehearsals in the morning, then hair and makeup, lastly I run lines with whomever I have scenes with that day. Then, it’s showtime.”
Amy: Although from a viewer’s standpoint you nail the part of Layla to a tee, are there any memorable ‘bloopers’ you’d care to share with us?
Tika: “Hmm. There are always tons of bloopers! Ha! I can’t remember one particular time, but OLTL should sell a bloopers reel, I think people would get a kick out of it.”

Tika: “Hmm. Well, because I work with him a lot it’s very different than someone else being attracted to him. He’s a pretty serious and nice person.”
Amy: Fans may not know this but you were co-founder of the group “Twise.” Do you ever miss your singing career or have future plans for a solo CD?
Tika: “I believe “Twise” came into my life for a reason, and when I left it was time to go solo. I am now working on my album, I’ll update everyone when it’s ready. I sing all the time!”
Amy: If there was one piece of advice you could give someone who was trying to break into the acting or music business what would it be?
Tika: “It’s not easy, and if you’re just in it to be famous you should probably re-think it, because it’s a long road. I would say start with acting classes and the journey will take you from there.”
