After class, Schuyler holds Starr back and listens when she explains what happened in court. When he asks if Todd said anything about his mother, Starr assures Schuyler that he didn't - and explains that none of this was Dr. Joplin's fault - then tells him that the only witness who knew anything about his mother's involvement is dead. Though Schuyler hopes they can all move on, Starr talks about holding Chloe, and her baby dying, then admits she can't stop thinking about her baby!
At the bar, when John questions why Schuyler was at the trial, Schuyler explains who his mother is then vents about how the cops think she was in on Todd's baby snatching scheme. Over talk of the case, Schuyler recognizes John as the cop who found Marty then suggests that John must really want Janet - the last witness - to pay for what she did to help Todd hide Marty!
When Blair arrives at Rodi's, John's surprised to see that she knows Schuyler - and that Schuyler is Starr's teacher! After Schuyler takes a seat at a table, Blair confides in John that she knows that Tea or Todd made Starr change her mind about testifying! Before Blair and John leave, John makes eye contact with Schuyler. Once they are gone, Schuyler sends Starr a text to make sure she's okay, and Starr thanks him for understanding her.
Schuyler goes to the cemetery, stands before his mother's grave and says, "Hey Mom, I got your letter." Realizing that his mother joined forces with Todd to protect him, Schuyler vows to now protect her! "I wish you had told me about this," Schuyler says. "That's why Todd Manning was able to blackmail you, because of me, because you didn't want my reputation ruined." Knowing that's exactly what'll happen if the truth comes out, Schuyler talks about what a good kid Starr is - and how she didn't rat her father out - then holds up the letter… The only piece of evidence left.
Suddenly, Starr calls Schuyler to thank him for going to the trial - because he's the only one who understands why she couldn't destroy her father. After Schuyler agrees that he does understand, he hangs up, starts the letter on fire, lays it on his mother's grave and watches it burn!
When Cole hears about Janet's escape, he walks out of the courtroom, confronts Schuyler, who is holding his mother's letter, then rushes off after reminding him that his mother helped kill his baby! Though Schuyler gets a call and asks the caller, "What do you want?" he promises he'll be right there and leaves.
At school, Starr rushes into Schuyler's arms and cries that her life is falling apart! Though Schuyler pulls out of Starr's embrace, he tells her, "This isn't a good idea," but listens as Starr explains she came to him because he's the only who knows how it feels to have someone you love hurt themselves. As Starr talks about everything Tea told her, and about how much her dad wants to change, she says, "Maybe I shouldn't testify against my dad." Schuyler asks Starr to think about the real reason why she agreed to testify in the first place, which leads Starr to remember her promise to Hope, then he asks why she shouldn't testify, leading Starr to admit that she doesn't want to hurt her father. Schuyler advises her to trust herself and promises to be at the trial tomorrow.
After Starr leaves, Schuyler reads his mother's letter, about how Todd planned to steal Star's baby - and how he blackmailed her to help him! Reading that his mother did it to cover up for Schuyler's crimes, he is devastated to find out that his mother killed herself because she couldn't live with the pain of causing the baby's death!
With court in session, Nora shows the jury a photo of Starr's baby - the baby that would be alive if not for Todd - then brings up the doctor who helped him scheme to kidnap her! Next, Tea delivers her opening statement: admitting that Todd isn't a saint but vowing to prove that he's incapable of the crimes the DA's office is charging him with - claiming the case is a personal vendetta against Todd! During a recess, Todd warns Tea not to harm Starr on the stand, while Cole looks at Starr and Starr looks at Schuyler. Just as court is called back in session, Nora hands the judge a copy of The Sun and demands a mistrial - and that Tea be removed from the case!
Next, Nora calls Starr to the stand and begins cautiously questioning Starr about visiting Todd in the hospital. "I asked him to tell me the truth about weather or not he was planning to kidnap my baby," Starr says, leading Nora to ask what Todd's response was!
