She single-handedly got Cristian Vega released from prison on a murder charge and believed in Todd Manning's innocence right up to his 'close-call' execution.
Suffering a broken heart after her relationship with Detective John McBain went south, Evangeline has finally found a reciprocated love in Cristian Vega! Cris, Layla and Lisa Williamson are gathered in Evangeline's hospital room in Maryland. Layla's mother explains talking to Bennett Thompson. Layla admits by law they can leave Evangeline on life support indefinitely. Lisa doesn't want to watch her daughter wither away and leaves to get the doctor. Layla falls into Cris' arms and cries, "My sister's going to die." Lisa and the doctor return. Once the doctor knows Layla and Lisa are sure about their decision she gives them time to say goodbye. Cris and Layla wait outside while Lisa says her goodbyes.
Inside the room Cris promises he'll never forget Evangeline and everything she gave him. "You believed in me," Cris cries. "You gave me my life back and I'd give anything right now if I could do the same for you." Layla comes in next. She holds Evangeline's hand and promises to carry her with her until the day she dies. Cris puts a comforting hand on Layla's shoulder as her mother and the doctor appear. "The papers are signed," Lisa says. "It's time." The doctor turns off the machines, Evangeline's hand goes limp and Lisa, Cris and Layla break down in tears.
Still at Evangeline's bedside Cris professes his love for her and wishes he could save Layla and her mother from the heartache of having to make such a heartbreaking decision. Cris explains his love for Layla and the need to move forward. "I've never felt so powerless," Cris says and talks about the guilt Layla carries for being with him. "I have the same guilt," he admits and wishes he knew for sure that Evangeline gave them her blessing. "But that's not going to happen. You're not coming back," Cris sobs. Layla arrives and shows Cris Evangeline's living will. After Layla assures Cris that Evangeline wouldn't want to live like this Cris suggests they call a lawyer.
