OK...i said in my last post it was a LOOOOOOONG interview (but interesting)..VP showed a playful and wicked sense of humor (and a few cusswords to boot)!!..so here are a few last nibbles and bits.
VP said she felt bad for actor John Beck---who played Mark Graison---who married Pam Ewing in the infamous "Pam Wakes UP" season finale. He lost the job because of Pams "dream" season. She says he was actually OK with it too because he didn't expect to return for as long as he did that season, and there was alot of resistance to Pam moving on without Bobby so she thinks he actually had some relief leaving DALLAS again.
VP said that three months before she left the show, she mentioned it to Leonard Katz (Dallas Producer) that she was leaving, since she had notified CBS almost two years before, she assumed they had told him and he knew---he thought she was joking. CBS never mentioned it to Leonard and he was shocked she was leaving. He then spent weeks leading up to the "Pam Car Crash" to get her to change her mind.
VP said she was invited back to all three of the DALLAS REUNION MOVIES. She says she declined before ever getting a script because she wasn't ready.
VP said she was happy to do "return to southfork" TV show in 2004 because she missed seeing the other cast members, but purposely shyed away from other reunion opportunites, not because she didn't love DALLAS, but because she just wanted the few things she did do to be more special.
(for anyone who doesn't know) DALLAS was a FIVE PART MINI-SERIES. VP said those five episodes were her favorite. And that when the show was originally turned into a series, The Barnes were going to be more prominent, and that the show was going to be a "romeo+juliet" show centering around the TWO families, Ewings and Barnes..EXCEPT that Larry Hagman was so incredible at being bad, that he just became the center of the show (NOTE: VP was PRAISING Larry Hagman, not complaining in any way).
VP said her first scene ever filming DALLAS was the outdoor scene at the gas station where Bobby and Pam kissed. The convertible top was down and it was winter and freezing outside.
VP said Larry Hagman would give the kind of advice you might not find useful in the moment, but sure enough 10 years later you would look back and think he was brilliant for knowing what he was talking about.
VP said besides PD, she had the best chemistry with Ken Kercheval (cliff). She said they looked nothing alike and no one would believe they were brother and sister, but the key was that they acted like Brother and Sister and she always enjoyed those scenes.
VP said repeatedly how much she loves the fans and DALLAS and she has no regrets for ever being Pamela Barnes Ewing, she was just ready to try other things (she produced and starred in many high rated TV movies after DALLAS).
On the Victoria Principal Businesswoman front: She is actually a chemist who CREATED Principal Secret. She is not a celebrity who just put her name on a box and shipped it out. She is literally hands on. The most successful skin product on QVC EVER and one of the most successful in the world. The world wide sales are amazing she said. VP: too many over the counter products produce skin reactions and rash, a problem she had, so that is why she started the creating process....
