I think Jonathan has the brute strength fo fight off Alan's craziness, but not the brains. Alan is way more diabolical. Look at the mind game he is playing on Lucy now. He has her so paranoid, he won't have to have her comitted, Jonathan will do it for him thinking he is doing what is best for Lucy.
