Guiding Lights fans cooking...

Hi ya all! I know none of us are ready for the 9-18-09 to come. If some of you are like me, anxiety about it is growing. For me, cooking helps and of course, all the GL fans. I thought it would be fun to have a Guiding Light/Springfield Cookbook. Everyone add a fairly short recipes named for a character on the show. You can have more than one character and they can from the past as well as present. I was thinking this would be fun to share and something we could all copy on our own and have a little memory of not just a show we love, but knowing what friends we made. Maybe sound silly or corny, but that’s me!!

Dinah’s Carnival Corn(Since Dinah grew up in a carnival setting)
2 C. brown sugar 1tsp. vanilla
1C. margarine ½ tsp. soda
1tsp. salt 8or9 qt. popped corn
½ C. white syrup
Boil all ingredients, except popped corn and soda for 5 minutes, mixing well and stirring occasionally. Take off burner and add soda. Pour over corn. Bake 2 hours at 250 degrees, stirring occasionally.

Spaulding Family Cake(Very rich and full of nuts)
1 box yellowcake mix ½ C.chopped nuts(Walnuts or pecans)
1/4C. cooking Oil 2 beaten eggs
2eggs 4 ½ C. powdered sugar
½ C. chopped nuts 1pkg. (8oz) cream cheesed, softened

Mix cake mix, oil, eggs, and ½ cups of nuts by hand and pat into ungreased 9X12 inch cake pan. Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, beaten eggs and the remaining nuts to make the topping. Mix well and pour over the cake batter. Bake in 300 degrees oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Let cool, cut and eat

Cyrus's Sticky Buns
(named for his sticky fingers and *ahem* his buns!)

18 frozen dinner rolls
4T dry butterscotch pudding (not instant)
1/2 c melted butter
2 T cinnamom
1/2 c brown sugar
chopped nuts

Place frozen buns in buttered bundt pan. Sprinkle 4T pudding mix on buns. Mix melted butter, cinnamom, brown sugar and nuts and pour over rolls. Cover with foil and let sit overnight. Do not refrigerate. In the morning bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Invert onto plate.

Actually as easy as they are, they are pretty good!

Mallet's Mullet
(If he were my husband he would be in hot oil!)

Generously salt and pepper a mullet fillet.
Roll in corn meal.
Deep fry in 350 degree oil until golden brown.
Drain on paper.

Calliope, you got this down better then I down!!

Edmund's Deviled Ham and Cheese Spread(Edmund is a little devil and makes being cheesy so easy)

1/2 pound of dry deli ham, chopped
1/2 small white onion, finely chopped or grated
2teas. paprika
1teas. Worcestershire sauce
1T. hot sauce
2T. Yellow Mustard
1, 8 oz block of Cream Cheese(softened
1 Cup shredded extra sharp Cheddar cheese
Place all of the ingredients into a food processor and mix into a spread. Remove it in a bowl and top it with 2 T. of finely chopped parsley and 1/4 cup of olivies with pimiento, also finely chopped. Serve with your choice of crackers or chips

Marina, always, the Crab Dip



12 oz. cream cheese
1/2 # crab meat
1 tsp minced onion
1 tsp lemon juice
1/8 # swiss cheese
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
Mix ingredients together, put in crab meat last,
Sprinkle parmasan cheese on top. Bake at 350 for 1/2 hr.
or until bubbly.

Hawk's Bourbon and Branch

2 oz bourbon
4 oz (maybe less?) branch water from Oklahoma

Stir in cocktail glass.
