Y&R lost over 300,000 viewers

Postby girlpoetus » Fri Oct 09, 2009 12:17 pm

I was on another website and they posted the Nielson ratings for September 28 – October 2, 2009:

Ratings for the week September 28 – October 2, 2009

(Compared to Last Week/Compared to Last Year)

Total Viewers
1. Y&R 4,964,000 (-314,000/+25,000)
2. B&B 3,261,000 (-125,000/-324,000)
3. DAYS 2,903,000 (+39,000/+397,000)
4. GH 2,635,000 (-35,000/-310,000)
5. OLTL 2,465,000 (+3,000/-29,000)
6. AMC 2,448,000 (-74,000/+67,000)
7. ATWT 2,386,000 (-168,000/-346,000)

Looks like people are feed up and not watching. Ive always said the writers dont give a damn unless the ratings go down...well they have.

perhaps I am not reading this correctly, but even though it has lost 314k viewers, they have gained back 25k which is still better than a lot of other shows are doing.Check out B&B and ATWT for comparison.......oops, those are other CBS shows, better compare Days!

I imagine a lot of people watched last week to make sure Colleen was really going to die. I am not surprised they lost viewers and if they continue the depressing story lines they may lose even more.

They can add one more, I quit recording the show this week. I will keep up with it through the Web site but after the stolen baby story line, I am done watching this slop. I tired of the writers beating up on my girl Sharon. She deserves better story lines. This soap is taking a nose dive. The only improvement in the past few weeks was not seeing Phyllis.

ALL soaps lost viewers since last year.....but Y&R has the most viewers and they increased since the previous week by 25,000.

I agree with you on this and I think some were curious about the baby switching s/l as well. I just think if they drag this one out and not return Sharon's baby a lot sooner than later and have her hook up with Adam 8) they will probably loose a lot more viewers. JMO

Disagree.....the dramatic buildup will take time. Sharon is supposed to get stronger..that hasn't had time to happen much less find a new love. No things will be status quo for a few months at least.

I am not surprised. And I do believe this will be the beginning of declining ratings over a long-term period.

Yes, the numbers are higher than last year (not by much though), but still Y&R is the only soap to have declined in over 300,000 viewers as compared to last week.

They are saying Days might soon give the top rated soaps a run for their money. According to the rising numbers, they might be right.

Well, if declining ratings is the only way the writers will care, then that's what they're getting, arent't they?

If I'm reading her chart correctly there was an INCREASE from last year SAME WEEK and a DECREASE from LAST WEEK which means the results of the storylines from LAST WEEK DIRECTLY IMPACTED VIEWERSHIP!

Funny thing is that I have been hearing for months that Sharon is to become a stronger person but yet they always find new ways of tearing her apart sort of like they do to Lily. I'd personally would like to see her out and about, she's always locked up in some room somewhere. How about having her go check on her ex best friends daughter Lily, damn one would think that she would have paid her a visit after all the things that poor girl is going through but not a single visit or mention of how Dru's daughter is doing. I find that awfully strange because that's just not Sharon.
