In the comments following the update, someone made a comment about making sure your family does not have to make an agonizing decision. This is an excellent comment. My husband and I have had "Do Not Resuscitate" orders and mutual instructions in case something like this happened. He slipped away in his sleep, but I have an updated DNR order with instructions to my son, with copies for him, one with my primary care physician, and the original with my attorney. I want to spare him making this decision. I have kept my will updated, along with a Power of Attorney in event of death, plus a durable Power of Attorney in case I am mentally or physically incapacitated, so that he can act on my behalf even though I am still alive, along with a list of contacts, financial institutions, etc. and everything else he needs to know. Please, no matter how young or old you are, consider your family and ease their way through a difficult time for them.
