Soap Opera Actors: Where Are They Now?

    Wednesday, July 30 2014

    Kiberd (Joseph Marzullo/WENN.com)
Catching up with the former daytime actors.

Our latest column, which Soaps.com will now bring to our readers twice a month, has some updates surrounding the careers of former soap stars of daytime canceled soaps "As The World Turns," "Edge Of Night," "Guiding Light," "One Life To Live," "Passions" and "Port Charles."

A Best Supporting Actress nominee, watch one actor's short film online for free, a game show producing gig, a sad passing, get well wishes and more…

    James Kiberd after daytime.
Soaps.com Facebook follower Tracy S. was curious about "All My Children's" James Kiberd's (ex-Trevor Dillon aka Hayley Vaughn's Uncle Porkchop, 1989 to 2000) whereabouts these days. Though it doesn't appear the actor has been involved in anything recent, after leaving his Pine Valley role, Kiberd was a temporary replacement for the role of "As The World Turns'" Hal Munson in 2001. He then appeared in a few Primetime guest roles and short productions up until his last sighting in 2010 as Dr. Samuel Hirsch in the horror flick "Vampire." He's been married to fellow former soap actress Susan Keith ("One Life To Live's" ex-Samantha Buchanan, "Another World's" ex-Cecile Cory, "Loving's" ex-Shana Burnell - pictured above) since May 17, 1986.

    Where's Michael E. Knight?
Linda M. asked about Michael E. Knight's latest projects but unfortunately the actor hasn't been spotted in and around the industry since 2013 playing Tad Martin on "All My Children." However, he did appear in an episode of "Drop Dead Diva" that same year.

Finn Wittrock to American Horror Story: Freak Show.
Though Michael E. Knight appears to be MIA, the actor who once played his onscreen son ("All My Children's" Damon Miller) Finn Wittrock is heading back to Primetime. Showrunner for the FOX series, "American Horror Story: Freak Show," Ryan Murphy took to Twitter to announce the latest casting news. Though character details seem to be hush-hush, the latest installment in the "American Horror Story" anthology will premiere in October, be set in Jupiter, Florida and will surround conflicts between freaks and those who don't understand the players in one of the remaining 1950s freak shows.

Eileen Fulton recovers from a fall.
Soaps.com Facebook follower Denise S. wondered what fan favorite "As The World Turns" actress Eileen Fulton (fifty years as ex-Lisa Grimaldi) has been doing these days. As reported on Eileen Fulton's Fan Club Facebook, the actress is currently recovering from a fall: "Hello everyone, I ask that you please keep our fabulous lady in your thoughts and prayers. She had a fall and screwed up her shoulder and will be in rehab for the next few weeks. I did talk to her today and she is fine and in very good spirits and enjoying the good food they have there lol. Any and all messages for her would be appreciated. You may leave them here in the comments or in a private message and I will see that she gets each and every one of them. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers and I will keep you all updated as best I can. Thanks everyone and enjoy the rest of your Sunday." Feel free to 'Like' the page in order to leave or send your get well messages. Soaps.com sends the actress our very best for a quick recovery and is happy to note that she should be leaving the rehab facility and heading home on Friday.

Watch Brian Gaskill's short film The Speech.
Last August we alerted readers to former soap actor ("Guiding Light's" ex-Dylan Lewis) Brian Gaskill's short film The Speech, starring him as Tommy and Clea Rivera as Annabelle. Gaskill let Soaps.com know that the film was released in its entirety online on July 16 so we could pass the news along to his fans. Watch The Speech and proceed with caution, as the erotic, romantic drama contains profanity. Also, don't miss his original song "Falling (deep inside of you)" featured at the end. Gaskill's other soap credits include roles on "All My Children," "As The World Turns," "The Bold And The Beautiful" and "Port Charles."

    Zea/Schuldt (FayesVision/WENN.com)
Elaine Stritch passes away at 89.
Soaps.com is very saddened to report that Detroit-born Broadway star and Emmy Award winner Elaine Stritch passed away from natural causes at the age of 89 on Thursday July 17 in Birmingham, Michigan. She will always be remembered for her acerbic humor, which made her characters stand out from the rest. In 2002, she shared details of her love life and alcohol addiction in her one-woman show "Elaine Stritch At Liberty." Her daytime credits include "The Edge Of Night" as Mrs. DeGroot and "One Life To Live" as Wilma Bern. Throughout the years she appeared in primetime in such roles as Ruth on "My Sister Eileen," Aunt Polly on "Pollyanna," Dorothy on "Two's Company," Mrs. McGee on "The Cosby Show," Lanie on "Law & Order," Martha on "3rd Rock From The Sun," and most recently as Colleen on "30 Rock" (2007 to 2012), as well as an eulogist in "River Of Fundament" (2014). Soaps.com sends Stritch's family and friends our deepest condolences.

Michael Dietz produces new game show The Line.
Soap vet Michael Dietz has had roles on soap operas including "General Hospital" and "Port Charles" as ex-Dr. Joe Scanlon, "Guiding Light" as Alan-Michael Spaulding, "The Bold And The Beautiful" as ex-Dr. Mark Maclaine and "Passions" as Jake/Pete. Aside from acting Dietz has produced numerous shows and is currently working in Nashville on a new interactive game show, "The Line," surrounding contestant Q&As and stunts. Stay tuned for its Game Show Network premiere date.

Natalie Zea and Travis Schuldt marry.
Last July, we reported news that former "Passions" stars Natalie Zea (ex-Gwen Hotchkiss Winthrop, 1999) and Travis Schuldt (ex-Ethan Winthrop, 1999) became engaged. US Weekly is reporting that the couple married in Hawaii surrounded by a small group of family on Wednesday July 16. Soaps.com sends the newlyweds, who celebrated their special day with a beach luau, a lifetime of happiness!

Silvana Arias' Tu Mundo Awards nomination.
Silvana Arias, who played Paloma Lopez-Fitzgerald on "Passions" from 2004 to 2007, has a lot to be excited about these days. On July 15 the actress was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mayte Carvajal on the telenovela "En Otra Piel" by NBC Telemundo for the Tu Mundo Awards. Fans can visit Telemundo to show their support and vote for her up to ten times daily! The 3rd Annual Premios Tu Mundo ceremony takes place at 8:00 PM on Telemundo on Thursday August 21.

How about bringing back Passions. I never did get to see the end as I was working at the time.

I'm rooting for you to get home and get going, Ms Fulton. I have been a fan for over 30 years and I still am. Take care and take it easy for awhile. Things will get better.
