It's all about the women in this week's Celebrity News as the stars support Angelina Jolie, Lindsay Lohan slowly adjusts to rehab and Barbara Walters gets ready to say goodbye.
Brave and strong Angies.
With surgery scheduled earlier this week, model, actress and mother, Angie Everhart ("Take Me Home Tonight") is expected to recover from her recent thyroid cancer diagnosis. According to Us Weekly, reps for Everhart say her decision to disclose her medical condition was to help others learn about cancer prevention and early treatment as she reportedly received a good prognosis. Angelina Jolie ("Salt") was similarly moved after revealing her reasons for spending the last several months undergoing surgery and breast reconstruction for a double mastectomy at the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Beverly Hills, CA. Jolie's likelihood of getting the same cancer that took her mother in 2007 was that much higher as a result of a BCRA1 gene – a faulty gene that predisposed Jolie to breast and ovarian cancer. The loss of her mother and the desire to remain a mother herself led Jolie to bravely opt for a preventive double mastectomy. Despite her last procedure near the end of April, it has been speculated that Jolie may be facing more preventive surgeries related to her risk for ovarian cancer. Jolie is not alone among Hollywood celebrities who have made the same decision, including Christina Applegate ("Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy"), Sharon Osbourne ("The Talk") and Wanda Sykes ("Curb Your Enthusiasm"). Read Jolie's poignant op-ed piece for The New York Times where she opens up about her diagnosis, her courageous decision and the support of her family and fiancé Brad Pitt ("World War Z"), who called her decision "heroic."
Congratulations to America Ferrara ("Ugly Betty") who recently graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in International Relations. Ferrara has been working toward completing her education for the last decade and she shared her pride in this latest accomplishment via Twitter. Reportedly, Ferrara initially took a leave of absence from her studies in 2002 to star as the lead in "Ugly Betty." Her return to school was part of her long-term vision to marry the pursuits of acting and celebrity to the engine of international causes.
I'm walking in my college graduation in 3 days from @uscdornsife! It's finally happening! Took me 10 years, but it feels great.
90210 ends, Mrs. Beech begins.
As "90210" comes to an end, Shenae Grimes (ex-Annie, "90210")' probably isn't mourning the loss of her television character too much these days. Grimes has just married her fiancé, British model Josh Beech, in an intimate ceremony in London, England over the weekend. Grimes' dress was a departure from the usual bridal white, as the actress chose to don a stunning V-neck halter, black tulle-layered Vera Wang gown to share "I dos" with her new husband.
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder call it quits.
From co-stars on-screen to romantic partners in real-life, Nina Dobrev (Elena, "Vampire Diaries") and Ian Somerhalder (Damon, "Vampire Diaries") have decided to remain just friends and co-stars since ending their relationship earlier this week. Not too far away however, Miley Cyrus, who recently topped Maxim magazine's Hot 100 list, is rumored to be heading to couples therapy as a last ditch effort to hold on to her once "The Last Song" co-star and current fiancé Liam Hemsworth ("Hunger Games"). Despite Cyrus maintaining that she and Hemsworth are solid and making the most of their offbeat schedules, and speculation that Hemsworth's elder brothers staged an intervention, reported insiders at In Touch magazine have Hemworth with one foot out the door, and the other possibly in a spiritual counselor's office together with Cyrus. We'll be keeping an eye on this couple.
Jaden stays at home.
Like most adolescents his age, Jaden Smith ("The Karate Kid") is well aware of where his bread is buttered and isn't in any hurry to move out and strike it out on his own. Smith joined his father on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" this week to promote their latest celluloid collaboration, "After Earth," and took the opportunity to refute the latest rumors that he is seeking a new address and has asked for emancipation from his famous parents Will Smith ("Ali") and Jada Pinkett Smith ("The Matrix Reloaded") as a present for his upcoming fifteenth birthday. Watch the father and son duo as they stick together in "After Earth."
Brooke Mueller clinging to child support?
Despite having to spend an undetermined length of time in rehab, Brooke Mueller is reportedly trying to hold on to her $55,000 a month in child support by seeking custody and a new living arrangement for her two sons with her ex-husband Charlie Sheen ("Anger Management"). Currently, Bob and Max are under the care of Sheen's former wife Denise Richards while Mueller undergoes court-ordered treatment for prescription drug abuse. According to TMZ, Sheen was forced to head to court to confront Mueller's request via her lawyers that their children be placed with Mueller's brother, a relatively unknown uncle, because she feared Sheen's temper. In this way, Mueller would reportedly be able to still collect the $55,000 in child support she received from Sheen. TMZ adds that Sheen was willing to increase the child support payments he currently pays to Richards for their two children Lola and Sam, to keep his boys in her care, but Richards apparently declined.
This week saw more celebs facing legal papers and one set narrowly avoiding them. Singer Usher ("The Voice") is being sued by his former nanny for wrongful termination. The nanny, Cecilia Duncan, alleges that the singer has failed to pay her overtime wages for looking after his two children, Usher Raymond V, 5, and Naviyd Ely, 4.
Donald Faison ("Scrubs") is also under fire from the legal reps at his management firm who claim that Faison owes them more than $70,000 in unpaid commissions. The United Artists Agency alleged that Faison's 10 percent in commission fees halted shortly following the last season of the 9-year series, which UAE claims they were responsible in casting Faison for. Faison's earnings for the final "Scrubs" season were almost $1 million.
The Kardashian sisters have narrowly escaped losing tons of money in a lawsuit over the name of their cosmetics brand. Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian ("Keeping Up With The Kardashians") have conceded to rename their beauty line from Khroma to Kardashian Beauty after losing their trademark dispute with Lee Tillett, a Florida make-up artist and founder of her own Kroma cosmetics line. Tillett had accused the Kardashians of stealing the name and later sought $10 million in damages.
Barbara Walters announces retirement.
Although she has yet to firm up her plans, sleeping in on a Monday morning or even every morning might just be at the top of Barbara Walters' ("The View") list. The celebrated broadcast journalist announced her plans to retire this week, stating that she will stay on for one more year as co-anchor of her popular Daytime talk show and to honor her commitments to the ABC network. Walters follows her co-host Joy Behar who will leave The View at the end of her contract this August.
The fresh pickings from Oprah's farm (Yes, it's real folks!) will be splashed throughout the pages of Oprah magazine this month as Oprah Winfrey ("Oprah's Next Chapter") shows off her successful green thumb. Late last year, Winfrey's plans for an organic farm, offering organic produce and foods were set in motion when she reportedly filed several trademark applications for 'Oprah's Organics', 'Oprah's Farm' and 'Oprah's Harvest' with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Association. In addition to the hundreds of acres of fertile soil, the media mogul and philanthropist also owns a bed and breakfast on the massive property. Winfrey and her agri-partner, fitness expert Bob Greene, currently donate all produce grown on her land to local eateries.
Musical chair changes.
With Randy Jackson recently announcing that this would be his last season of "American Idol," many rumors are suggesting that the rest of the panel that holds Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj and, possibly host Ryan Seacrest, will also follow. And with a new "American Idol" winner to be announced later today, more departures are sure to take the backburner until then. So while everyone is waiting for confirmation, rival show "The Voice" is already announcing its judging lineup for next season. The popular singing competition will see the return of vocal powerhouse Christina Aguilera, who reportedly gets a $12 million raise, and smooth and groovy Cee Lo Green for season five once Shakira and Usher depart after season four. Reports say that Shakira opted to spend more time with her newborn son and family and that Usher was locked into movie commitments, effectively preventing them from returning. The speculation seems a bit contrived as it's always only been four judges and single season replacements were necessary because Aguilera and Green were releasing new albums and supposedly going on tour.
Beyoncé pregnant? Not so fast!
Since when does exhaustion and dehydration amount to pregnancy? Apparently, since Beyoncé announced she wants to have more children on "Good Morning America" and then promptly canceled a few concert performances. Earlier this week, Beyoncé postponed her Mrs. Carter World Tour performances in Antwerp, Belgium on doctor's orders to rest because of excessive fatigue and dehydration. While she did not outright refute the pregnancy rumors, Beyoncé penned a personal apology to her fans on Facebook and her Mrs. Carter World Tour website. The following night, the singer returned to the stage.
Glanville disses Rimes?
Let no good deed go unpunished. Just when we're starving for an obvious truce, free of the social media seesaw, there goes LeAnn Rimes provoking Brandi Glanville ("Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills") with a bouquet of flowers. How dare she have them delivered on Mother's Day! Glanville apparently took it that way with a sober Tweet that effectively described their relationship – numb and unmoving.
I thanked @leannrimes on twitter4 my flowers. Our relationship is that we still dont even say hi at baseball.I dont have her number-thats it
Lindsay Lohan's rehab routine.
"E! News" is reporting that Lindsay Lohan is adjusting to the daily routine at the Betty Ford Center rather well. Apparently, Lohan follows a habitual early-to-bed-early-to-rise schedule that allows her to attend group meetings, enjoy physical activity and see minimal visitors. The one item missing from Lohan's daily practice is the drug Adderall which Lohan takes for her ADD and which the Betty Ford Center does not allow. Sources say Lohan will just have to deal with it as Lohan navigates through her treatment over the next 90 days.
