    I'm Sorry You're Dying.

    Tuesday, September 08 2009
Henry's birthday party gets underway, Dinah runs into Mallet and Alan and Phillip finally agree about what to do.

Josh arrives at Cross Creek and calls Reva outside to see what he got Henry for his birthday. She's not thrilled to see that he got him exactly the same rocking horse that she did. She thinks he should take his back. They argue and she agrees to get another gift.

Mallet is assigned to a small outpost by the Austrian border.

Shayne drops by Marina's to help with the party preparations. As they tape up decorations, she stares at the badge Mallet left behind. Shayne shows Henry the decorations. Mallet calls. Shayne answers and passes the phone off to Marina. She tells the little boy that his 'friend' is calling him. After Mallet wishes Henry a happy birthday, he tries talking to her but she hangs up.

Buzz and Frank are at Company. Frank thinks it's still too early for them to be celebrating like this after Mallet left. Lillian arrives and Buzz mentions that Alan is a match for Phillip. She's shocked. Daisy is at the bar making food for takeout. Lillian asks her how James is taking the news about his father. Cyrus brings in a gift for Henry and hands it to Buzz. Buzz reminds him that he is a Cooper and that means he has to go to the party.

Josh arrives at Marina's and asks Shayne what Henry needs. Shayne thinks he needs a mitt. They chat and Shayne says that this is the first time he's felt complete. After Josh leaves, Frank arrives. He thanks him for stepping up and helping out. They shake hands. Marina comes in and says she's ready.

Alan tells his son that he can be his donor. He's not frightened anymore – he wants to save his life. Phillip tells him that this isn't about what he wants. Alan points out how great the odds of him being a match for him are against them. He's sure that this must mean something. "It's not going to happen!" Phillip repeats, walking away.

Bill and Lizzie are at home talking about paint and wondering if they should go to the party. Phillip arrives and tells her she should go. He wants to help out around the house but she thinks that's too risky. He wants them to have a good time and gets to work. When he goes outside and begins painting, Daisy comes by with food for the work crew. "I'm sorry you're dying," she says. "Me too. I'll miss everybody," he tells her. She lets him know that James is upset but he doesn't act the way he feels.

Josh and Reva go back to Cross Creek and continue arguing about gifts when he opens the back of her car, she screams as balloons fly out.

Lillian approaches Alan in the park. He tells her that Phillip has refused his help. She thinks he's brave for offering. He wanders alone, spotting the balloons as they drift through the sky. As he follows them, he runs into Lizzie and Bill. He tells them he has to keep moving and hurries away. He follows the balloons to the graveyard. Phillip is hidden behind his gravestone. Standing at his son's gave, Alan tells him, that he can't lose him. He's been afraid all his life and that has made him selfish. Kneeling down, he confesses that he's never been the father who he needed and they've never had the relationship that either of them have wanted. He now has the courage to pass by all of that but only Phillip can let him take the risk so that he can become the man he always wanted to be. "If I lose you, I lose myself," Alan says. Phillip comes out of hiding. He still refuses to let his father risk his life. Alan begs him to let him acquire the courage he has always lacked. Phillip relents. Alan throws his arms around him and thanks him. They begin arguing over who gets to keep the balloon.

Mallet is stunned when he runs into Dinah by the side of the road in Austria. He tells her that he's not with Marina anymore. They just weren't supposed to be. He thinks everybody is in the right place now thanks to Dinah putting them there. "I think I'm where I'm supposed to be too," he says. They chat about what's next for them. She doesn't know where she is going for now and hasn't felt settled anywhere. He's sure she'll figure it out and fixes her car.

Lillian tells Frank, Josh and Reva that Phillip only has a few days left. They thank her for telling them and go into the house for the party. As everyone celebrates, Buzz comes in as a clown. They pass around boxes and make wishes. Shayne wishes that everything could stay the way it is today. Marina didn't know things could be as good as they are. Cyrus and Frank agree to make peace. Josh and Reva make wishes, but recognize that they can't have what they don't have. Lizzie and Bill wish for a baby and for her father to get better. Lillian wishes for the same thing.

I don't post often but I do read everyone else's posts. I just want to say I am so sad that the end is almost here. I hate we have been cheated out of two days for tennis. I have cried so much in these last weeks. I really don't know what I will do when it is over. I have watched all of my life. I am one of the lucky people who got tickets to So Long Springfield in Pittsburgh. I actually got tickets to the second show on Sunday because they were sold out on Saturday. At least I will get the chance to let the actors that will be there how much they have been a part of my life ever since I can remember.

I am glad that they put Marina and Shane together. I never liked her with Mallet. It is great Mallet and Dinah seem like that they will be together. I am also glad they are bringing Jonathan and Sarah home. I really hope Phillip lives. Billy and Vanessa back together is great. I have always loved them together!

This is my firt time posting. I too have watched GL for my entire life. I am devastating that the show is ending. Especially now that they are finally making the show the GL that we've all grown to love. I am going to be lost when the light fades on 9/18/09.

I'm a little confused about the Alan thing. His big issue every since back in the day was being locked in the closet and now they bring up this thing about sending someone else to Vietnam in his place. I guess it gave a bonding place for him and Buzz (Buzz not wanting to return to his family) but I just don't buy that shift in history or that it would really affect him all that much. And what ever happened to the s/l with him and Reva killing someone. Did anything ever come out of their big secret? You'd think he'd have more issues from a a recent event of which he was the direct cause rather than some hair shirt cause like someone dying in his place.

So much to finish in so little time... I can't decide if I'd rather see Reva reunited with Jeffery or Josh for the ending... Such a shame it's soon gonna be all over.

If these writers(and I use the term loosely) had given such talented actors as Grant & Ron dialogue like what they had today we would probably be watching GL for another 72 years. The actors on these soaps are very talented but they are given such lame s/l's that if you are not a long time fan people just don't see it. Somewhere in the wonderful world of the arts are people who will appreciate them - I hope. Please redeem yourselves writers and bring back Jeffrey quickly and in one piece. Sorry they didn't pair him up with Reva earlier. They have been a breath of fresh air and seem to be like every day folk. At least I can relate to them. Going to miss these friends so much.

I have watched Guiding Light for more years than I'd like to admit.....can anyone give me suggestions for a new soap to watch? I used to watch Y&R and As the World Turns...as well as some which were cancelled also. Nothing can take the place of GL, but I'm willing to give something else a chance.

MMC411 you said it best... we were cheated out of two episodes... and I too have cried before, during and after each show.... I am very sad that CBS let this go. If this tells us anything when and if you choose a new soap don't pick one on CBS...boycott them!

After all these years if they don't let Josh and Reva get back together I am going to really be disgusted. For a while I was torn between Josh and Jeffery, but not that the end is near Josh wins. I too have watched GL from the beginning and I am still mad with CBS for taking it away. Just as my own personal protest I am planning to never watch anything on CBS except ATWT. When and if it goes CBS will be history for me. One thing I have noticed is that if they plan on Philip living then why haven't they made a serious pairing of he and Beth? It's only logical for Alan to die. No one pair except Billy and Vanessa (whopee-who cares) and Natalia and Olivia (whopee again)seem to be going into the sunset happy. I would have rather seen Vanessa with Matt, but who am I? Natalia and Oliva (gag me)
Couldn't they have done some decent writing and helped out Frank and Buzz? It just seems that the final is going to be so unclimatic. So far only the Philip story is interesting, but then what difference does it make? Since Jonathon looks like he is staying in Springfield then I think we can safely assume Alan dies, but then at this point who cares. I just can't understand how CBS can be so stupid. GL may be on the bottom of the list, but does that mean only 2 or 3 hundred people watch it? There are lots of loyal fans and lots of buyers of the products advertised. Personally I think I speak for a lot of people in saying that I am sad and 100% disgusted with the idiots that caused this to happen. One good thing that has happened in the last few years is Jonathan. I throughly enjoyed him and his character. I will look for him in the movies or wherever, but not CBS
