Lizzie detaches herself from her past, Bill gets an idea, Coop pushes Beth to go public, Frank makes a move on Natalia and Olivia gets uncomfortable.

Billy has a drink with his son at Towers. Bill admits that he's used the same tricks with Lizzie before but the motive was slightly different. He needed to know that she still had faith in him. "So you were going to prove you didn't kidnap her by kidnapping her?" Billy asks with a laugh. Bill fears that Alan will steal the last piece of Lizzie's heart. He asks his father to help him stop her from leaving.

Lizzie returns to her room to flip through her diary. She tears out a page and throws it on the floor. She goes downstairs to say goodbye to Roxy. When Lillian comes in, Lizzie tells her that Roxy needs to find a new home. Lillian tries to convince her not to and suggests that giving up Roxy is just a symbolic way of giving up Bill. "I'm just looking for some way to live without Bill," Lizzie admits, asking her again to take the dog. As she leaves the room, she runs into Beth. After Lizzie is curt with her, Beth regrets coming to apologize.

Lizzie and her mother go into the office to argue. She begins taking swipes at Beth about Coop. Beth warns her that Alan's love is toxic. She may be cheating on him, but she would be cheating herself by staying with him. Lizzie doesn't want to listen to this so her mother tells her she'll have to learn the hard way. Before they can get into it, Billy arrives. Beth walks out. Billy's glad to see Lizzie's angry - that means she has a heart. "Not for long," Lizzie says, sure that his son has sent him. He tells her that love is an investment. She says it is only an illusion. She tried investing in Bill and lost everything. He admits that love is risky but it can make you rich. "If you know so much, why are you still alone?" she asks. He drank his chance away, he claims. What's her excuse? As he walks off, she goes up to her room to pack. She collapses on the floor in tears. Picking herself up, she says that she's done crying. She's Elizabeth Spaulding and she can be anything she wants to be.

As Lillian takes Roxy for a walk, they run into Bill. "It looks like Lizzie left you too," he says to the dog. Lillian tells him that she's giving her away. It breaks her heart to see the way that Lizzie is disconnecting from everyone. Kneeling down, Bill tells Roxy that they are in the same doghouse and offers to take her home with him. As he walks the dog, he runs into Beth in the park and they talk about Lizzie. She says that, in her heart, she doesn't believe he's guilty. He wishes that Lizzie believed that. She counsels him to be patient.

Billy meets his son on Main Street. He tells his son that it takes a Spaulding to beat a Spaulding. Bill is inspired. Leaving Roxy with his father, he rushes off to Cedars and grabs Rick, demanding to know where Phillip is.

At Company, Coop is searching through the recycling bin for his manuscript. He thinks that his story can have a new ending now. Buzz tells him not to go back to that story. Beth walks in. Buzz stares as Beth and Coop lock eyes. He makes himself scarce. Coop and Beth whisper. He confronts her about Alan and challenges her to have dinner with him at Towers tonight. She thinks it is easier for him since he has no kids. He urges her to stand up for herself and for them. Frank interrupts. Beth stutters and walks out.

Emma takes to the stage and gives her presentation. Olivia and Natalia smile proudly and hold hands. As Emma talks about her 'two mommies', Olivia soon becomes uncomfortable when she realizes that everyone is staring at her. After it's finished, Emma tells her mother that all of the papers will be going on the website. As Emma skips off with a friend, Natalia is excited but Olivia worries that people may have the wrong impression. Nat has no idea what she means and rushes away as Emma's teacher comes over, eager to talk to Olivia. As she talks about how moving it was to watch her 'squeeze her partner's hand', Olivia begins to stutter and tries to clarify. Before she can, the teacher is called away.

Frank asks his father if Coop seems to have been acting weird. Buzz turns the topic to Natalia and tells his son that he is wasting his time giving her space. "Don't hesitate. Don't wait," he encourages. On cue, Natalia arrives and takes Frank by the arm. "You're the man I need," she says. As they walk outside, she explains that Rafe's meds were stolen and she asks him to pull some strings so he can get checked out. Stopping herself, she apologizes. He wants to be the one she runs to, he declares, grabbing her and kissing her. She backs him off. They begin apologizing to each other. He begs her to let him help her. After an awkward moment, they split up.

Frank goes back into Company and rants at his father. He took his advice and showed Nat how he feels. "She looked at me like I hit her with wet mackerel!" he shouts. Frank tells him to keep his advice to himself in the future.
Olivia goes to Towers. She sits at the bar and drinks, checking out the men.

When Natalia gets home, she finds Olivia sitting in the living room. She admits that she hates asking Frank for favors. Olivia tells her that she could do worse than Frank and encourages her to flirt with him more. Natalia's confused. Olivia tells her about going to the bar to check out men and then complains about what happened at the school. Her hints still aren't getting through. Olivia assumes she must know what everyone was thinking about them. Nat doesn't get it. Olivia tries to explain it every way she can but it still doesn't work so, finally, she grabs Natalia and kisses her.

Coop sits at Towers waiting for Beth. He's ready to leave when she suddenly arrives. The maitre' de asks if Mr. Spaulding will be joining them. Coop helps her to her seat. They toast to 'now'.
