Remy gets a surprise, Josh argues with Shayne, Coop asks Beth away and Bill and Lizzie have a night together.

Josh walks into Cross Creek. Reva is eagerly waiting for Shayne and worrying. She's sure it's her fault he's having so many problems. Josh suggests that their son is more like them than they realize – he can't do anything the easy way either. Jeffery arrives and asks what's going on. After they fill him in on the details, Josh tells them not to worry about Shayne. He'll take care of him while they look after the baby. After Josh leaves, the doula arrives.

After meeting with the doula, Jeffery and Reva take a walk. She's enthusiastic and optimistic about the pregnancy, but worries about Shayne. He worries about Ava. "I wish they had doulas to help you when your kids grow up," she says. As she worries about all of her children, he tells her again to concentrate on her baby.

At his place, Remy hands Shayne a hangover cocktail. He probes him for what's wrong. Shayne isn't giving up any details. He spots a picture of Ava and asks about her. Remy explains what happened with her and Max. "Everything that hurts, hurts worse at Christmas," he says. Shayne's starting to regret sticking around for the holidays.

Josh runs into Shayne's doctor in the parking lot of Cedars. He asks him if his son's prior accident could have any impact on his condition now. The doctor explains that Shayne never told him about any previous trauma and says that it could seriously complicate things. As the doctor rushes in to look over the charts again, Josh turns and finds Shayne sitting there. He asks his son why he didn't mention his previous accident. Shayne doesn't want him to feel guilty and he doesn't want his sympathy either. "What about my love?" Josh asks. Shayne wheels away but Josh chases him down and confronts him. They've gone through this before, he reminds him. Shayne says it's not the same thing at all.

Remy goes to see his sister at Cedars and asks her why she hasn't pushed the divorce through. She admits that she is delaying it because she thinks that he and Christina could be good together. "You try out samples of cheese, you don't try out marriage," he says. She thinks that he's still uncomfortable dating and hasn't gotten over Ava. Uncomfortable, he walks out.

Alan wakes Beth up with breakfast. He worries that she's been pushing herself too hard. She's eager to get away. Since school is out, he doesn't know where she would be going. She tells him she has research to do. He invites her to spend Christmas with him in China. When he explains that the trip is to save Lizzie and the company, she thinks he's using her daughter to convince her to go away with him. Still, she agrees to think about it.

At Company, Buzz is frustrated as he tries to get things clean. He runs into the kitchen and asks Mr. Clean how he manages to do it. They discuss Buzz's family problems. Mr. Clean thinks he should be proud of the job he's doing. Buzz walks over to Coop and finds him writing. Coop explains that he's been inspired since he hooked up with Beth. He's never had a relationship like this before or found someone who makes him feel the way she does.

Later, when Beth walks in, Buzz tells her to walk away. They walk outside. She makes excuses, explaining that Coop has become important to her and she won't hurt him. Buzz says that Coop has a mind like Aristotle and writes like Homer; he won't let her snuff that out and make him jaded. He orders her to end it now before Alan finds out and destroys everything.

Beth goes inside and sits with Coop. He invites her away with him for a week. She tells him it's impossible. He tells her to tell Alan the truth. She won't. "You can do whatever you want Beth," he says. She runs off. Buzz confronts his son, telling him that they are so similar that it's frightening. He warns him not to mess with Alan Spaulding. "If you're going to mess with his woman, you've got to tell me before he finds out because I'm going to need an hour to kill him before he kills you," he says.

Lizzie wakes up at Cedars. Bill is there to greet her. She asks him if he's found anything to help end their nightmare. Stuttering, he tells her he might have a lead.

Alan and Alex arrive at Towers. He's surprised to see Lizzie there, eating with Bill. When he walks over, he invites her to China again. She says she's staying put. Alex reminds her that they need to go before the project falls apart. Lizzie still refuses to go. Alan tells Bill that he's lucky to have someone who will sacrifice everything for him. Lizzie repeats that the Macao deal is not her priority right now. Alan says he'll have to fix things himself. Bill tells Lizzie to go; they don't need Alan to blow the deal they've worked so hard on. Lizzie just wants a holiday.

When Lizzie goes into her room at the mansion, she finds Bill waiting with champagne. They toast and smile. She tells him that she wants him to prove to everyone that he's innocent. They kiss.
Josh returns to Cross Creek and tells Reva and Jeffrey that Shayne's injuries may be worse than they thought. She tells him not to blame himself. Josh doesn't want them to worry about him and leaves. Reva asks Jeffrey if he still wants a son. "More than ever," he says.

Beth meets Alan at Towers. She finds the airplane ticket he already bought for her. She tells him that she can't go; she has to go to a law workshop instead.

As Remy sits at home, a knock comes to the door. He's shocked to find Ava when he opens the door.
