Beth plays up how difficult it is to believe that Tammy, a former foster child, would actually destroy a family; she must know how important it is to have a stable family. Beth leaves and Tammy gets a worried look on her face. Sitting back at the bar, the only other person there begins to talk to her. When he goes inside, Lizzie asks him who he was talking to. He says that it was just the bartender at Outskirts. He has to go in later and fix some plumbing. When Lizzie asks him what Tammy is up to, he feigns disinterest and points out all the gift he got her. Kneeling down to pick one up, she notices that his wedding ring is off. He tries to make excuses when Beth arrives bearing gifts. She tells them that Alan wasn’t full of holiday cheer. Sarah starts crying and Jonathan offers to feed her but Lizzie goes instead. Beth believes that Jonathan really love his little girl and offers him a gift: His wedding ring. He’s shocked to see her holding it and realizes that she knows everything. He doesn’t think she’ll tell Lizzie though because it would hurt her too much. Lizzie deserves better, she says holding out the ring as Lizzie appears. Her mother tells her that she found it on the bar at Outskirts. Once he has it back on his finger, Lizzie says that his hand ‘looks right’ again as Beth leaves. He puts on his coat and goes out soon after.
