Well Matt it is a complete year without Guiding Light and let me tell that I am still mourning the loss of this show!! I miss Rick, Mindy, Phillip, Beth,Lizzie, and Little Bill more than I could have imagined!! As I reread you ending critique, I really thought about the show and the things that contributed towards the downfall. I agree with alot of the things you said. When I first started to really watch this show Rick, Mindy, Phillip and Beth were the popular story line. I felt the friendship with these four people and identified with this friendship. It seems this show really let the realationship of all characters really deteriorate. To me it was about the characters, their growth, and the way family and friends stuck together. I agree also that the show really had no villan. Like All My Children had David or Adam Chandler there was no one to root against and no one to stand up for. I also agree that they let go of the 4 core family the Lewises, the Spauldings, the Wreardons and the Chamberlans. The Lewises and the Spauldings were there but they weren't nearly the power houses they were in the 80's. By the end of it I was just happy that Lizzie and Billy Jr were together and the Four Musketeers were back to themselves!!I am also peturbed that 1 year later I still have no idea what happend with Jeffrey and Edmund....somehow they even seemed to spoil Edmund's evilness!!! All in all I think the actors did the best they could with what they had to work with. The way the filming was over the past year was horrible and shame on CBS for not doing a better job of managing this show!! Guiding Light gave them a lot of viewers over the years and probably made quite a bit of money off of it during it's heyday!!! My 3pm time slot is still open and I miss reading the recaps and your blog!!!
