Saying So Long To Guiding Light. (Updated)

    Original article: July 30.

If you have been looking for away to bid your final goodbye to Guiding Light, this may be it. A special event is being organized in Pittsburgh this October to say goodbye to the history making series and celebrate the many memories it has given generations of viewers. "So Long, Springfield" will be a daylong farewell featuring ten of the show's most popular stars. The event is being held in Pittsburgh because the area boasts the most loyal and large fan base for the series in the country. It will offer fans the chance for a final up-close-and-personal time with the stars.

Kim Zimmer (Reva Shayne), Robert Newman (Josh Lewis), Daniel Cosgrove (Bill Lewis), Frank Dicopoulos (Frank Cooper), Gina Tognoni (Dinah Marler), Jeff Branson (Shayne Lewis), Grant Aleksander (Phillip Spaulding), Ron Raines (Alan Spaulding), Bradley Cole (Jeffrey O’Neill) and Jordan Clarke (Billy Lewis) will all be attending.

The event will take place on Saturday October 24 at the Hyatt Regency Pittsburgh International Airport. The cost will be $75.00 for the day or evening, or $140.00 for the entire day. From 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, attendees will take part in a question and answer session and learn behind the scenes secrets from a director of the show. They will also have the chance to meet, greet and pose for pictures with the stars. Some people will be able to win the chance to act in scenes from the show with the actors.

At 4:00 PM the vendor tables will open. From 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM, the evening adventure gets underway with a light dinner. A special musical farewell has been planned. It will feature several of the actors performing vocal numbers and sharing their memories performing on the show.

For more information on this event, please visit the official website.

    Updated: September 1.

Due to the overwhelming response in Pittsburgh, another event has been added. This will run on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM. It will be the same as the Saturday event so, if you weren't one of those who got a ticket to that event in time, now is your chance. Tickets are still available for the events on Saturday evening.

On Saturday November 7, the event will arrive in Atlanta, Georgia. From 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, fans will be able to enjoy a question & answer session, learn behind the scenes secrets from a director and take part in a meet & greet where they can get autographs and pose for photos with the stars. Several lucky fans will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to act out actual scenes from real Guiding Light scripts with the stars themselves!

From 7:00PM until 10:00 PM, there will be a special, musical farewell. Several of the actors will perform vocal numbers, and share memories before a light strolling dinner.

This event takes place at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta Downtown located at 265 Peachtree Street, Atlanta. Tickets for the daytime session are $75.00. Tickets for the evening session run at $75.00 or you can get both for $140.00.

I am so upset over Guiding Light ending!! I have watched the show since I was a little girl.. With my grandma and my mama.. I love it!! Always have.. its my favorite.. and now its being taken away. I completely agree with everyone that has said Bold and the Beautiful should be the one to go.. It dosent make any sense most of the time.. I love Reva and Josh and even Reva and Jeffrey.. I love Bill and Lizzie.. I'm glad Phillip is back and I hate that they had to make him sick.. Please Please Please you cant go away forever!!! I won't ever watch CBS ever again!! they are making a huge mistake for causing this show to end!!!! What's next As the World Turns?? The next best thing on daytime tv???? I sure hope not..

I rarely have the opportunity to watch at the time the show is aired, however, do dvr as much as I can. I can't believe that they are taking you all away from us. Reva, Josh, Billy, Vanessa, Alan, Philip, Alexandra, all the Bowers gone is all just incomprehensable. I am a 3rd generation viewer and will miss all of you. Personally think your being done wrong, Bold n Beautiful whould have been the one to be dropped....at least Guiding Light focused on Family, Values and made so that viewers could relate to some of lifes trials and tribulations. All B&B gives viewers is that everyone is out to screw the other and it's ok. Sorry not a message I want to even hear. Take care to all who have brought many hours of viewing enjoyment through out our families 3 generations of viewing - You all will be missed !!!!!!!!! :-(

I may be 25, but ever since I was old enough to know what was going on, Guiding Light has always been my favorite to watch. I remember sitting down with my mom and watching all of them. As I sit here today, I realize how unfair this is. Of all the shows that should go, I believe Bold and the Beautiful should be the one to leave. It never makes sense, it's useless and retarded drama and I always mute the show rather then watch it. I lost my job two and a half years ago, and this is the one show that I have watched faithfully everyday since. It is so amazing the feelings and emotions that have come from this show into my own heart. I will be saddened to not see this show anymore, but maybe hopefully if there are enough comments, maybe they will change their mind, or something.. Otherwise, to all the actors and actresses on the show.. Bravo for going so long, and you will all be missed..

I still can't believe the end is so near. I don't want the stories to wrap up and it makes me even angrier at CBS for cancelling it. I am also mad that GL was preempted way too often and many times during major plot developments. I used to love the podcasts of the show because they were never preempted, but just as they started gaining popularity they discontinued them.

I cannot Believe after all the years this show was on, That this is the best you can do. It is insulting. I am 33 and watched Guiding Light as long as I can remember. I grew up with this show and these actors became like family, we laughed and cried together. I am so sad to see this show end it's feels like I am losing something..... And then to see a crappy show like Bold and the Beautiful stay makes me sick...Sure I really care to watch Brooke Taylor and all the other Harlots sleep with the same boring people over and over that is all the show consists of Take off that filth ...There is no sense of real compassion or family there, I will so miss Kim Zimmer (REVA) and so many more. This is a huge loss to millions of Fans for another crappy game show..I am so over CBS I love Y&R but I am done with this channel. I hope billions of people tune this channel out and show them we love The second Family that Guiding Light has gave us and they robbed us of true artistry. I wish that As the World Turns would bring all them to their show ..keep them the same people and let us continue to see the people we have grown to love!

I am so sad that my Guiding Light family is being taken away from me. I have watched this soap for many many years. I will miss it terribly and I tear up every time I think of it not being aired.
I hope and pray that the ratings for CBS goes down as far as it can. What were they thinking???? Apparently they wasn't. How can they cancel Guiding Light . . . and keep The Bold and the Beautiful on??? It doesn't make sense. They will be greatly missed . . . I'm sooo upset.

    Luv u ya'll . . . Especially, Josh and Reva!!!

I am so heartbroken over the cancellation. It really makes me mad that we are missing two shows this week because of tennis. I am lucky enough to have gotten tickets to Sunday's So Long Springfield. I have watched the show all of my life and I am going to miss it. I at least have a chance to tell the wonderful actors that will be there what they have meant to me over the years and how much I am going to miss it. I really think CBS really didn't take into account the people who record the show and watch it daily. I tape the Guiding Light and As the World Turns. They are not going to get better ratings with Let's Make a Deal and I am positive no one is going to tape that to watch later.
