Although the pre-nominations stretched across the board, GL wound up getting recognized the most for its actors.
Daniel Cosgrove (Bill Lewis) has received a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor. He had a chaotic year. After returning to Springfield and throwing half of the women in town into turmoil, he had his first mental collapse after losing his son, Max, who wasn't really his son at all. Managing to straddle both the comic and the emotionally frayed with ease, Cosgrove persistently gave his character surprising nuances.
Also turning in a strong performance last year, Jeff Branson (Shayne Lewis), has been nominated as Outstanding Supporting Actor. He may have only arrived late in the year, but the accomplished soap actor made an instant impression with his intense performance as the emotionally tortured young man. Outraged and self-destructive when he returned, his gruff exterior was slowly peeled away to reveal the fragile and difficult person inside.
EJ Bonilla also picked up the nomination for his performance as Rafe Rivera. He was nominated as Outstanding Younger Actor. Bonilla has already been turning heads in Hollywood, turned in a consistently strong performance as the sometimes dangerously over-emotional character. After losing the father he had only just found again, he ended up shooting Jeffrey and wound up in prison for most of the year.
Outside of getting noticed for acting, the series also picked up a nomination in the Outstanding Original Song category. That nod went to "The Leaver (Getting Left)"
