Soaps.com Catches up With Guiding Light Songwriter Colin McShane.

    Sunday, May 10 2009

    McShane (Amy Chase)
More than a year ago, Guiding Light unveiled its new look. Of course, it wasn't all about the way the show looked, viewers soon discovered that the show sounded very differently as well. Colin McShane became one of the musicians who would be heavily featured on the series' new soundtrack. His involvement with the show proved to be a blessing for him, dramatically helping him push his career forward. I interviewed the singer/songwriter last year while the show was rolling out its new model. He got in touch with me the other day to let me know how his involvement with the series has impacted on his life.

    Soaps.com:
How has your involvement with Guiding Light affected your career?

    Colin:
The four songs used recurrently in the 2008/2009 season of Guiding Light drastically affected my career. Guiding Light was my first shot at licensing my music and I made sure to parlay it into more. Soon after my licensing deal with Guiding Light, I signed a deal with MTV Networks clearing my two albums (available on iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic) for usage across all the channels; MTV, MTV2, MTVU, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Spike, BET, etc. Since I signed the MTVN deal I have had songs played on MTV's "The Hills" and am currently providing music to Nickelodeon's "iCarly."

After signing with MTV I was hired by LakeHouse Sound as a Featured Artist. As a Featured Artist at LakeHouse Sound I will provide custom scoring for commercials, TV, and film as well as license pre-existing songs from my first two albums, and songs I did with my rock band Fountainhead. My involvement with Guiding Light has definitely affected my career.

    Soaps.com:
Has it made you a fan of the show?

    Colin:
Guiding Light has so many devoted viewers. To call myself a fan after seeing how committed the real fans are would be blasphemy.

    Soaps.com:
    What are you doing currently?

    Colin:
Currently I am working on the new album and preparing for my show in NYC at Sullivan Hall on Thursday, June 4th. I am also working on songs for Nickelodeon's "iCarly" and another award-winning cable show I’m not able to name as of yet.

I have also started my company, Orphididies Productions. Orphididies is a company which provides Music Publishing Administration. The website is currently under design by Kevin Kula Productions. I have already signed two artists; a rock band named SevenEnder and an instrumental musical landscape artist named Notious. Both artists are currently being introduced to the Orphididies family and will be receiving placements in TV, commercials, films, and games soon.

    Soaps.com:
Where can fans find your work?

Colin: Fans of mine can find my music on iTunes, Rhapsody, and eMusic.

Colin also told me that he hopes he will be getting a Best Original Song nod for "It's All For You" when the official nominess are announced for the Daytime Emmys this week. The song played numerous time over the past season and was a top seller on iTunes.

Soaps.com wishes him the best of luck!
