How You Can Help Save Guiding Light.

    Thursday, April 02 2009

    (CBS)
As many readers will be aware, CBS has announced that they will not be renewing Guiding Light for their 2009/2010 season. (Read more here.) This means that the long running series will end its time on the network on September 18. However, this does not necessarily mean that the series has to end on that date. There is still the possibility that it could continue on a different network, or on the Internet. After all, it leaped from NBC to CBS, from radio to TV and from 15 minutes to an hour, so surviving the shift is in its lifeblood.

Believe it or not, the voices of fans can make a difference, especially when there are enough of them speaking with a united voice. Be positive. Recruit your friends, your family and anyone else who might want to be part of saving one of American television's greatest institutions.

Procter and Gamble have said that they are still looking for ways to keep the show going. If you want to show your support for the series, there are several ways in which you can go about it. Here are some numbers and addresses that you can call or write to.

When you get in touch, don't just tell them how much you support the show, also be sure to tell them who you are demographically and that you will follow the soap to any other network. Of course, you can also get in touch with the other major networks, and even cable networks, to let them know that you would like to see the series airing on them.

We will try to keep this updated.

I'm sitting here with my girlfriend who just informed me that GL was going off the air. She just said it may not be the show but the writers. Fire all of them and bring back Harley, Jonathan, Gus (just like they always brought back Roger Thorp), Get rid of Beth and Alan, Bring back Casey, Put Josh and Reva this is when things were good with the show. We need to ban together to see this show does not go off the air. My two daughters watch the show as I did after school. This is the only one the teenagers can watch after school. If they need to do anything change it to 1/2 hour insead do not write it off. Lets get real!!
    Crazed.

I joined soap.com to find out how to complain about the cancelling of "Guiding Light". Keep us up to date.

I grew up on GL...I'm 52 years od and so have my children. It's a shame after all this time they would cancel the show. I was hoping the show would last long enough to get Josh and Reva back together. Bring all the good characters back and let this show live at lifetime.

Here we go again another soap being threatened to be taken off the air. What is wrong with the t.ve staions? Ever time we turn around womens daytime soaps are being threatened! I am personally sick of it. What are they wanting to put in it's place? Another talk show, like we need that? More News, like we don't get enough. Please Leave Womens soaps ALONE!!!!!

HAVE A CONTEST ... LET THE FANS SUBMIT STORYLINES AND IDEAS OF WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN TO THE CHARACTERS ... THE WRITERS HAVE BEEN RUNNING OUT OF IDEAS OR SOMETHING. DO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO SAVE THIS HISTORIC SHOW!! BRING BACK THE BAUERS, THE REARDONS. BRING BACK THE CHARACTERS AND THE ACTORS WHO KEPT THE SHOW HIGH IN THE RATINGS YEARS AGO. THE FANS KNOW WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE. LET US SEND IN STORY IDEAS...MAYBE WE CAN ACTUALLY COME UP WITH IDEAS THAT WILL KEEP PEOPLE WATCHING!!

I just heard this on the radio and I didn't believe it. Guiding Light was the very first soap opera that I started watching as a teen. It would be on when I walked in the door from school. There were four generations in my house watching it. I love the show and it's characters, I'd hate for CBS to lose the show but I could watch them on any channel. Please don't stop fighting for this show. They have been on so many years, I'd love to keep Guiding Light going long enough for my kids and grandkids to one day get hooked on it like I did.

Those petition sites won't help. Don't waste your time on those. Check out what Matt has to say in the above article and that will be the only thing that will help save the show.

Please do not post your soap sites on this site. That's grounds for removal.
