    Another Side of Alan

    Friday, November 17 2006

    Alan Spaulding (Ron Raines) (
I know that everyone is eagerly awaiting the Thanksgiving episode of GL set to air on November 22. It promises to be something unexpected and will bring much of the Lewis-Shayne clan together. The episode will also be the 'In the Light' special for Ron Raines. While, we've known him as Alan Spaulding since 1994, Raines is also an accomplished and versatile stage actor, recently appearing with the Florida Orchestra Pops for a Rogers and Hammerstein Gala. One can hope that we may see shades of Alan's character that have not been shown before.

Alan and Alexandra (Marjorie Dusay) (
The episode will concentrate on the lonelier side of Alan. Left alone, on Thanksgiving, with no one to keep him company but his servants. Maybe, he'll use the opportunity to reflect on his past failed relationships. He's had quite a few and with very different women. With Beth and Olivia, who can both manage to be as vindictive and unsympathetic as him; with Jackie, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Diane in relationships that he scarcely thought about. Then there were the odder relationships, like with Regina who ran away and became a nun or with Annie and Claire who managed to be more unbalanced and dangerous than he imagined. There were also affairs that shouldn't have happened, like with Vanessa or with Philip's former flames Blake and India. Of course, he also married Reva, but she was in a coma at the time. The only lasting relationship he's had was with Hope, Alan-Michael's mother, who fell in love with him when they were stranded on a tropical island after a plane wreck. Their relationship had its ups and downs, largely as a result of Alan's battles with Philip, before Hope was driven into alcoholism and abandoned Alan for New York. Things haven't gotten much better for Alan since and, while his family moves further away from him and he tries to cling to Lizzie's baby, the holidays should make it clear just where he stands. What should be really exciting is seeing how Reva will try to reach out to Alan in an attempt to safeguard the future of the baby. Will they finally put their feud behind them, or will they push it into the all-out war that Alan's promised?

See Alan Inside the Light on November 22.

Alan needs to be deflated. Writers please enough already. Show him that by all his actions he will remain lonely or dead one. Let the feud go, don't bring a baby into all that hatred and deceit.

I do not see how Alan will give up. To me.... he seems pretty much ruthless. I think that in the end though, Lizzie's baby will be safe....or maybe not. ?

I think Alan's character has always been an integral part of G.L., yes he is a contoller, yes he has done many questionable things, he is a man that keeps us coming back. Has anyone read of his 'real' life' persona, a talanted singer, a family man. As to the part he is playing on this soap, IMO he is doing an incredible job.

i would like to see Alan fall for Reva in a big way!Now that would be interesting,,huh
I bet josh would love that!!!!

I never thought about it until i read someones comment, but
what a flip if Alan starts trying to romance Reva.Well just
alittle while Im still hoping for Reva/Josh reunion. It would
be wild for awhile, during this time Cassie shows her true colors.A romance could stir between Cassie and Jeffery secretly enough that Josh can see who she really is,but he
cant have Reva right away because of Alan. Josh is making me
sick right now after how he was in the hospital. He says when
Reva is dying he loves her come back to him,she came back, nowhe doesnt want her? He made me really mad when he hit Billy too!Tammy is a good actress but im sick of Tammy and Johnathan always looking at each other like looking at
puppy in a pet shop window...sick.

Ok, when are you guys going to stop the Cassie and Josh romance? I'm truly sick of it and it turns my stomach to watch him kiss Cassie. I'm at the point of not watching anymore. This is the only soap I watch!!!!!!! Reva and Josh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Together forever. I can't believe you brought her back in a marvelous remission, by the way, to just leave Cassoe with Josh. That is cruel punishment to the fans.

I agree with everyone Josh is being a jerk He told Reva how much he still loved her in the hospitial and as soon as she came out of the coma he dumped her. Nice guy! I'm glad Moira came back, maybe she'll finally make her father see how stupid he's acting over Cassie, besides I think she still has feelings for Jeffrey, they make a good pair, I still don't like her acting

Alan is something else. Sometimes he is really funny at being mean. It would be something if Alan did fall for Reva. That would still be a better romance that Josh and Cassie. Josh with anybody other than Cassie would be better. If Alan and Reva did get together then Josh would be jealous

Remember, Cassie is Reva's half-sister. However, Cassie appears to have a flawed character by having an affair with her sister's husband. She does not respect her sister, the family and friends. I am so happy that Reva did not die.

Push it into the all-out war between Allen & Reva. She needs the fight to get back to her old self. I hope you don't plan for them to fall for each other again. The two of them are better on the battle feild.
