    Saying goodbye to a legend.

Soaps.com is saddened to report that veteran news reporter Mike Wallace passed away at the age of 93, peacefully, on Saturday night April 7. He was surrounded by family at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, Connecticut, a facility where Mike spent that last couple of years.

"It is with tremendous sadness that we mark the passing of Mike Wallace. His extraordinary contribution as a broadcaster is immeasurable and he has been a force within the television industry throughout its existence. His loss will be felt by all of us at CBS," said Leslie Moonves, President and CEO, CBS Corporation.

In 1968, Mike was the first correspondent hired for CBS' "60 Minutes." He went on to win the Lifetime Achievement Emmy in September 2003 and received three Peabody Awards before retiring in 2006 as a full-time "60 Minutes" correspondent. It was in 2008, after a triple bypass operation, that Mike retired for good.

Mike was also a radio announcer for the now defunct CBS soap opera "Guiding Light" in the early 1940s, known as Myron Wallace, and appeared in "G.E. True Theater," "The Sword And The Dragon," and in 1958 won a Golden Globe for his work in "The Big Surprise."

On Sunday April 15 there will be a special program dedicated to Wallace broadcast on "60 Minutes."

Soaps.com sends Mike's family and friends our deepest condolences.
