Rick asks Mel to get together for coffee but she replies that she's very busy and is unable to. He calls Beth and tells her he'd like to see her if she can come by and then has second thoughts after he hangs up.
Rick heads to Beth's "room" and knocks on her door. In the background, Jonathan is stunned realizing Beth is having an affair. After making love, Beth asks him what he's thinking?! Rick admits that it feels so right and wrong all at the same time and doesn't know how to deal with it all. Beth tells Rick they should rent a movie next time or better yet, go out to see one. Rick tells her they can't be "seen" together and kisses her goodbye. She runs to the open door and kisses him one more time while Jonathan video tapes the entire moment. After Rick leaves, Jonathan knocks on Beths' door with a smile! Jonathan shows Beth some of his favorite moments on the video. Beth tries to deny it all explaining her and Rick are very affectionate with each other. Jonathan continues, explaining that Beth will destroy Alan's case against Lizzie or he'll blow up the pictures and make certain everyone will know what went on today. As she glares at Jonathan he asks if they have a deal?
Rick heads out for lunch and meets up with Mel and her brother. He tells her he thought she didn't have time for even a coffee? She said she didn't and still doesn't because she was going over the case with Lizzie. Tammy approaches them and asks them who would testify against Alan. Rick replies that she can start with him. Tammy thanks him for that.
Mel talks with Jonathan, Lizzie and Tammy about their options against Alan. She suggests to Lizzie that she needs to stay away from Jonathan. Jonathan stands up and asks why she would suggest such a thing. Mel replies all of Jonathan's history and things he's done make Alan look like the most stable of the 3 of them.
Lizzie approaches Coop and asks why he's at the hospital. He explains he's there to see his little sister Emma and tells her what happened. Lizzie gets overwhelmed for a moment talking about how hard it is to raise children. But he assures her she'll do well as a mother.
Later on Lizzie talks with Lillian about the baby and what's best for everyone. Lizzie tries to tell her that she will be a very responsible mother and needs her help. Lillian asks Lizzie if she's falling in love with Jonathan. She replies that Jonathan and Tammy are getting married but Lillian pushes her, wanting to know her feelings. Lizzie gushes about how kind and wonderful and safe she feels around Jonathan, admitting she is in love with him.
Jonathan calls Tammy telling her he's "onto something" and will call her back when he can.
Beth talks with Rick but he wants to do it in private, not in Alan's room. She assures him Alan is out getting tests and they have time to talk. Rick tells her he's not comfortable talking about anything especially in her husband's room, the man she's cheating on with Rick!
He tells her the affair going on between them is getting too out-of-hand. He needs to slow it down. Beth tells her they need each other but Rick tells her it's a crutch. She tells him she feels young and happy with him. Rick tells her if Alan doesn't make her happy, to leave him. She tells him she is happy with Alan in a different way and wants both men in her life.
Rick tells her they have to stop doing this. Beth laughs and chastises him that he's the one that called her last night.
Rick flashbacks to his and Mel's conversation about his mistakes and driving her further away from him. Mel tells him to stop blaming her for all his mistakes. (flashback over).
Beth flashbacks to talking with Alan about the ...role... of a woman in marriage. She is flabbergasted at his statements and snidely tells him there's no ...role... set out for women in marriages, and walks away. She then thinks about her and Rick meeting at the bar crying over their drinks about their spouses. They talk about when Rick felt when he found out that Philip was still alive but didn't tell Beth. Jumping forward to one of their many sex romps in bed, he tells her how great it's been with her and she tells him to stay the night. (flashback over).
Rick runs into Mel and asks her to give them a second chance. She tells him that she invited Remy and others to celebrate him getting his job reinstated. They waited for a long time but he didn't even call. Rick tries to make up an excuse that he lost track of time. She tells him she can't be with him tonight because she has to work and walks away.
Lizzie disagrees with Mel about seeing her granddad and busts into his room. She walks up to a ...fake... sleeping Alan and tells him she needs to have a ...heart to heart... with him right now and hopes he's up to it. Lizzie tells Alan that the police have charged her with attempted murder and he has to call the police. Alan tells her he's far too tired and they'll talk later. Mel tells her to get out of the room.
Beth walks into Alan's room later and talks with him. He tells her that Lizzie was charged with attempted murder but she's already out on bail. He pleads with her to help get Lizzie's baby for their own. Beth stands up to Alan and tells him from now on they're doing things HER WAY like it or not.
Mel meets up with a co-worker, Ryan for a dinner date. She tells him she's flattered that he asked her out but between her daughter and her work, she doesn't have time for anyone in her life. Mel's brother interrupts them and drags her away. She yells at him asking if that was necessary?! He asks her where her wedding ring is? Mel tells him she's sick of being a perfect wife, perfect mother, perfect Bauer!
Later Mel knocks on Jeffrey's door telling him she's glad he's there. He invites her in. Jeffrey asks her what's going on? She tells him nothing much, just stopping by to see an old friend as she strokes his arm. Jeffrey teases her, telling her she's beautiful forbidden fruit.
Mel snaps that he's such a jerk. He pours her a drink and she looks at him asking if she can try something? Mel kisses him passionately and pulls back sighing ...oh did nothing for me.... Jeffrey tells her thanks a lot.
In walks Dinah interrupting them. She asks Mel to be her lawyer. Mel tells her she's not going down that road. But Dinah continues, and tells Mel what happened with the fire and why she did it. Mel smartly tells her that's not how to deal with emotions like that. Dinah tells her ...she knows that....
Mel tells them she has to head out but they invite her to go out with them. Dinah pulls out a bottle of wine and Jeffrey proposes a toast. To have everything in life without all the complications! Dinah tells her to confide in them. Mel unloads on both Jeffrey and Dinah. She speaks about her family, her marriage, her job. If she chose to get a divorce, it would be the first divorce of her entire family EVER! She tells them divorce is too easy and marriage is the hard part. She thanks them for the shoulder and walks out.
