    Exactly What They Need

    Tuesday, August 21 2007

At the mansion, Cyrus impresses Alexandra in his new Italian suit. He's just prepping himself for his meeting with the Spaulding brass. She tells him to enjoy himself. Meanwhile, Dinah walks in on Mallet as he goes through their bills. She's still looking for a way to help out but he says that it's all taken care of. Marina comes to the door to pull him away to work. Once they depart, Dinah sneaks out and heads over to see Alex who, rather bluntly, fires her on the spot. Dinah tells her that she's making a mistake; she knows Cyrus better than anyone else. She quickly surmises Alex's whole plot to control Cyrus and, knowing this won't work, she taunts her, asking her what she will do when her plan comes apart and she finally realizes she's the one being played. After leaving, Dinah goes down to Lizzie's bar. Finding a credit card left on the table, she decides to keep it and use the identity on the card. She introduces herself to the bartender as 'Georgia Tucci' when she orders a drink. Soon, she begins playing the part and Matt arrives, listening to her for awhile before sitting down with her. She's embarrassed, but he's in no mood to be judgmental. He's impressed by how smooth she is right now though: When she's lying, she doesn't slur or stutter a single word. When Mallet arrives to take her home, she starts to stutter again and she hurries him out.

    Monday, August 06 2007

At police headquarters, Mallet is telling Marina about the difficulty he's having getting medical coverage for Dinah. Meanwhile, Dinah struggles to get through an introduction for a segment for her show. When she keeps getting the words wrong and stumbling, she starts to scream at the camera man. Vanessa says they need to take a break. She tells her daughter that she is doing too much too soon: She needs to stay home and rest. Dinah wants another chance but her mother says no: If Dinah won't take of herself, she'll have to take care of her. When she goes home, she finds Mallet there. They talk about their work days. He tells her that his work load will be much lighter now so he'll have more time to spend with her. When he leaves to go to the bank, she starts to search through his desk and finds all of the insurance papers. Picking up the phone, she calls Matt for help. When he arrives, he looks through the bills. She asks him to ask her mom to give her a raise. Awkwardly, he tells her that Vanessa just sent him divorce papers. She's confused and starts to cry; she feels broken but she wishes that people would stop talking down to her. She begs Matt for a second job, one at Lewis. He can't do that for her.

    What's Done is Done

    Monday, July 30 2007

On Main Street, Cassie sits down beside Matt. He has been sitting there for hours with a letter from Vanessa. Expecting the worst, he hasn't been able to open it, but finally does. It's his divorce papers. Meanwhile, Dinah has gotten dressed up and goes down to the dining room at Towers. Cassie grabs her hand and pulls her to a table. When their dinner comes, Dinah just stares at the cutlery. Cassie asks her if something is wrong. Dinah begins accusing her of being sent to spy on her by Mallet. Everyone knows that she is the 'brain damaged TV star'. Cassie insists that no one sent her and asks Dinah to sit down and explain things. Dinah doesn't know how to do things. She doesn't even know how to use the fork. 'That must be so frustrating,' Cassie says. Insulted by sympathy, Dinah almost burst into tears. She doesn't want anyone's pity: She's not a loser. Spotting two men at the bar, she decides to prove that she can still have men eating out of the palm of her hand. As she strides over, Cassie looks on, worried. She sits at the bar with the men and flirts with them in a series of incoherent sentences before returning to Cassie's table with a pair of cell numbers. She realizes that she forgot her credit card at the bar and returns to hear the men commenting on what an idiot she seemed to be. The numbers they gave her were for the dog pound. Dinah's crushed.

Mallet meets with Frank at CO2 to ask for more time off. Frank can't do that; he needs him on the job. Afterwards, Mallet finds Matt sitting on the bench on Main Street. He wishes that he'd told him about Dinah's condition before. Matt tells him that he just figured it out on his own. Mallet needs help: This is worse than being dead for Dinah. He will help, Matt offers, but he has problems of his own and he thinks that Mallet should hire someone to help her. As he walks away, Mallet calls Frank and tells him that he may have to fire him. He won't let Dinah do this alone.

    Alan Knows Best

    Monday, July 16 2007

Mallet is dismayed to see Dinah pushing herself so hard to get back to work. He doesn't want to leave her but she pushes him to go off to work and leave her. Once he's gone, she calls Matt and asks him to give her some backup. Dinah goes out to meet an enthusiastic producer about interviewing Doris live on the evening news. Dinah tries to hide her discomfort at this challenge. Matt sits down with her and offers to help her out. The producer returns with Eve, a chipper replacement reporter, just in case Dinah needs to step out. Dinah remains undaunted; she wants to prove to everyone that she's even sharper than she was before her trauma. She wants a challenge; she's sick of relying on other people. Matt's impressed, she hasn't stumbled over a single word. He gives her a hug. Later, Mallet arrives just as the interview is about to begin. She is rushed in front of the camera to interview Frank. As she begins to read the teleprompter, things go fine until she has to speak for herself. The words become difficult and her sentences incoherent. After a long and difficult pause, Frank tries to speak, but everything becomes blurry for Dinah as she freezes up and holds back her tears.

    How Stupid Am I?

Dinah and Mallet arrive at Company to the applause of all of their friends. Dinah is uncomfortable and disoriented, but only Matt seems to notice. After a few awkward encounters with guests, Matt corners her and tries to give her some support. She assures him that everything is slowly coming back to her. When she forgets Remy's name, she starts to cry and runs to the washroom. Later, she goes down to CO2 and fumbles with her phone, dropping it and breaking into tears when someone jogs by. Mallet runs up to her and holds her close, trying to calm her. Sitting her down, he apologizes for the party; it was obviously too much too soon. He tells her that he is stepping down from the crime commission but she doesn't want him to give up his life for her. 'Everything else is just stuff,' he says as they kiss.

    Making an Honest Woman

    Tuesday, July 10 2007

At Cedars, Dinah's doctor is talking to her about the difficulties she may encounter. She starts to space out until Mallet arrives to take her home. As the doctor leaves to get the release forms, Mallet smiles and goes off to prepare things. Left alone, Dinah starts to mumble to herself and begins to play with her phone, forgetting how to use it. Cyrus walks in, surprising her. She can't remember his name until Marina walks in and says it. She tells them that she needs to dress and they leave as Mallet returns. He takes her home and Matt comes knocking. Mallet is about to leave them alone to pick up their food when she starts to space out again. When a knock at the door brings flowers, she gets jumpy and sits down as he leaves. Once Mallet's gone, she rushes into the washroom and tries to pull herself together. After she slumps down, Matt comes in to check on her. She tells him that everything is wrong; she feels blocked and words won't come out the way they're supposed to. When she saw him, she couldn't come up with his name and became confused. As she cries, he tries to calm her, reminding her that she's been through a serious trauma and it will be difficult for awhile. He tells her that nobody has to know that she's having trouble, she can take notes and practice until she gets back to her old self. When Mallet returns and unpacks the food, she hugs him close.

    I Believe in You

    Monday, July 02 2007

On Main Street, Matt grabs away Vanessa's phone to tell her that Dinah is awake. She tries to rush off but he stops her, reminding her that they need to wait while they continue to run tests. He feels that this is a sign that everything will be alright. Taking her hand, they know that they can't wait and run off and over to Dinah. They sit by her side with Mallet. He tells her that he was trying to let her go and be faithful to her last request in her living will. She seems confused. He wanted to be able to let her go, but he couldn't and begs her to forgive him. 'I don't need to forgive you,' she says. Later, Marina arrives to pay a visit and Dinah asks where her 'daddy' is. Vanessa gets a worried look when she hears this. Vanessa explains that Ross died a year ago. Dinah remembers and says that she's just tired. They all file out but Mallet stays by her side. In the corridor, Cyrus arrives and tells Marina that he knows her father just wants what's best for her. None of that matters to her though. 'I believe in you,' she tells him.

    I'm All You've Got

    Thursday, June 28 2007

At Cedars, Vanessa sits beside Dinah and promises her that everything will be fine. Matt arrives to check in, but Vanessa asks him to leave: She doesn't want to be in the same room as him. As they begin to argue, Mallet, who hasn't slept in days, runs in and begs them to stop or he'll throw them out. They leave the room. Vanessa is distraught; Dinah shouldn't be in that bed: It should be Matt. Mallet begs them not to argue in Dinah's room anymore and then returns to look at his unconscious wife. Marina tells him to go home and get some rest. He's reluctant, particularly as Dinah's eyelids flicker and her hand shakes, but Marina pulls him away.

Matt tells Vanessa that he's sorry he was out of line; he feels responsible for what's happened. While she won't scream and yell at him, she won't talk to him either. When she walks away, he follows her, sick of apologizing. He only did what he did to give her and Maureen a better life. No matter how many bad calls he's made, he's never questioned his love for her. If she can't see that, they're finished.
