    Reva and Jonathan drive up to Lizzie and Bill's and she's shocked when her little girl gets out of the car. She runs down the lawn to embrace her daughter. She takes Sarah for a walk and Bill asks him what the plan is. Jonathan is hoping he can stay. They shake on it.

    Lizzie and Bill rush to the hospital. Alex, Beth and James are also there. Lillian and Rick come out and explain that Alan has volunteered to save Phillip. Rick says the chances are only 50/50. James demands to speak to his father. Alex sends Lizzie to see Alan.

    Lizzie goes to see Alan. He assures her that he will be fine. "I always knew that you could be a hero," she cries, hugging him. James comes in next. Alan admits that he's terrified. James tells him he'll make it.

    Lizzie and James talk. He's angry that his grandfather is taking this risk. She reminds him that he has already saved one member of the family. Now they have to help their mom and Alex.

    Bill and Lizzie are at home talking about paint and wondering if they should go to the party. Phillip arrives and tells her she should go. He wants to help out around the house but she thinks that's too risky. He wants them to have a good time and gets to work. When he goes outside and begins painting, Daisy comes by with food for the work crew. "I'm sorry you're dying," she says. "Me too. I'll miss everybody," he tells her. She lets him know that James is upset but he doesn't act the way he feels.

    Lillian approaches Alan in the park. He tells her that Phillip has refused his help. She thinks he's brave for offering. He wanders alone, spotting the balloons as they drift through the sky. As he follows them, he runs into Lizzie and Bill. He tells them he has to keep moving and hurries away. He follows the balloons to the graveyard. Phillip is hidden behind his gravestone. Standing at his son's gave, Alan tells him, that he can't lose him. He's been afraid all his life and that has made him selfish. Kneeling down, he confesses that he's never been the father who he needed and they've never had the relationship that either of them have wanted. He now has the courage to pass by all of that but only Phillip can let him take the risk so that he can become the man he always wanted to be. "If I lose you, I lose myself," Alan says. Phillip comes out of hiding. He still refuses to let his father risk his life. Alan begs him to let him acquire the courage he has always lacked. Phillip relents. Alan throws his arms around him and thanks him. They begin arguing over who gets to keep the balloon.

    Lillian tells Frank, Josh and Reva that Phillip only has a few days left. They thank her for telling them and go into the house for the party. As everyone celebrates, Buzz comes in as a clown. They pass around boxes and make wishes. Shayne wishes that everything could stay the way it is today. Marina didn't know things could be as good as they are. Cyrus and Frank agree to make peace. Josh and Reva make wishes, but recognize that they can't have what they don't have. Lizzie and Bill wish for a baby and for her father to get better. Lillian wishes for the same thing.

    At Cedars, James confronts Ed about the procedure that could save Phillip. Ed insists it's untested and risky. In the corridor, Lizzie can't believe her father is dying. Alan rants about how his son has kept this from them. Lillian, Beth and Rick gather around Phillip and try to convince him to stay in the hospital. He refuses. James rushes in and tells them all that there is a cure and Dr. Bauer wasn't going to tell them. Ed explains that this would require an extreme operation that would likely kill both people involved. No doctor would do it because it's so risky. Lizzie wonders if one of them is a match. Phillip refuses to let anyone in his family take this chance. James and Lizzie still want to be tested. Phillip forbids it and leaves to talk to Emma.

    A distraught Alex arrives at Cedars. Her brother takes her by the hand and leads her into a waiting room. Rick arrives next. His father comes out and tells him that he's proud of him and then leads him into the waiting room. Bill and Lizzie arrive next. Lillian takes them into the waiting room. Beth and Phillip finally arrive. He tells her he couldn't get through this without her. She wants to be with him every step of the way. As they hug, James comes in. They go into the waiting room with everyone else. Phillip tells them he's dying. When it becomes clear that he's known for months, James walks out. Lizzie cries to her father and Alex sobs to Alan. James walks the corridor, smashing things until he walks into Ed's office and looks over Phillip's file. When Ed comes in, James confronts him. "I see you found a cure Dr. Bauer, so why are you letting my father die?" James demands.

    Lizzie walks up as Josh and Bill discuss a project for the wedding. They admit that they are planning their part of the Lewis tradition - disrupting Billy and Vanessa's honeymoon. She refuses to let them go through with this and takes their blueprints away. As she walks across the lawn, her mother calls and they chat about the wedding. She says it's every child's dream to have their parents back together. Beth tells her to keep dreaming.
