    Tuesday, February 03 2009

Blake and Coop are at Towers. He doesn't want to be there. She brings him up in front of the little audience, introducing him and handing him a copy of the book so he can read to the crowd. As he begins, Beth and Alan arrive. He walks out to take a call while she joins the crowd and listens. She shakes her head as he reads. Alan returns and notices. As he listens, he tries to stifle his growing rage. When Coop finishes, everyone claps. When he spots Beth, he tries to slip away. Before he can, Blake unveils the cover of the book, which bears the image of a woman looking remarkably like Beth. Beth hurries over to Buzz and Frank, asking them what they should do. Meanwhile, Blake asks Alan who he thinks the mystery woman is. He ignores her and walks away.

Coop and Beth slip into a corner. She says that she was going to tell Alan that she is leaving him at lunch. He smiles and tells her it's cool that she is there. He wants them to stick to their original plan. Blake walks over to pull him away to talk to the press. After they leave, Beth breathes a sigh of relief until Alan pops up. She tells him they should go somewhere else. As they step into the elevator, Buzz and Frank watch them leave. Frank thinks that his brother is on a winning streak. Buzz warns that winning streaks never last.

Back at Company, Coop spots Blake and rushes over to her. She tells him that his book was too good not to be published. He forbids her to let it see the light of day. She sits him down and tells him that this book can be a bestseller. He doesn't care; he wrote it for himself. "Just you?" she asks, saying that she feels like she really knows the woman in the novel. Coop tells her that's the problem and repeats that he only wrote this for himself. She's disappointed but leaves to talk to the publisher.

Blake goes to see the publisher to convince her to cancel the book. When the publisher hands her a check, Blake gets excited. "Sometimes writers don't know what's best for them," Blake says with a smile.

As he storms out, Blake walks in and sits down in front of his pile of papers.

She gets on the phone to her old colleague in the publishing world and tries to sell Coop's book. She tells them that it's a true story about a man in love with an older woman. "She's a blond in the book but a redhead in real life," Blake says with a smile.
