At Cross Creek, Reva is putting pictures of Jeffrey away, but she tells Colin she won't put them all away. They still need to see his smile. She admits that Jonathan was right; they really need to get back to the real world. Taking the baby, they go out to the car. Once they're there, she says they don't need to go anywhere and convinces herself to stay home. They go back inside. Lizzie and Bill drive up. She runs out to keep them from going in and insists that she is fine. She says they can come over for dinner some time and sends them away. They're sure something is wrong but leave. Reva paces around Cross Creek and tells Colin they'll have to go out soon to stop people from coming by to check on them.
Billy and Vanessa drop by Cross Creek with a cake for Reva. They invite themselves in for a piece. As they eat, Billy tells her the news. Reva gives a delayed reaction and then congratulates them. They'd love her to come to the wedding. "I wouldn't miss it," she says, hugging them. After they leave, she tries to convince herself to take the baby for a walk. After another bite of cake, they go.
Reva runs into Josh at the minimart. He's glad to see that she is looking more like herself again. They talk about Billy and Vanessa. "Sometimes love actually wins out," he says. She invites him over to Bill and Lizzie's but he turns her down.
Cyrus Is Jenna's Son.
Reva is at Cross Creek making a sandwich and talking to a photo of Jeffrey. Jonathan watches her for a minute before coming in. She talks about marshmallow fluff and he teases her about talking to Jeffrey's picture. Shayne calls and apologizes to his mother for the way he's been behaving. After getting off the phone, she tells Jeffrey's picture that Shayne is a good kid even if he's weird.
Reva sees Blake drive up and runs out to meet her. They sit at the picnic table and talk about what it's like to lose a husband. Blake wishes she could spend more time with her but she has to run. When Reva goes back in, she continues talking to Jeffrey's pictures. Jonathan snatches it away from her and tells her to stop. He accuses her of running away from her problems by closing herself in like this. As he tears down the pictures and yells in her face, she tells him not to judge her. He thinks she's insane.
Lizzie runs into Reva at the minimart. She tells her that she and Bill are planning to have kids. They talk about Sarah and she wonders what she is like now. When she asks after her again, Reva deflects the question and tells her that any 'creature' she has will be lucky to have her as a mother.
Shayne goes to Cross Creek and finds that Jonathan is packing. Shayne tells him he's been making things better for their mother and compliments him on being a good father. They shake and Jonathan leaves. When Reva returns, she sees the note her son left behind. She talks to Jeffrey's picture again, admitting that she can't keep doing this.
The Truth Is We Can't Hide The Truth.
Jonathan sends Reva off to the minimart. As soon as she's gone, Jeffrey calls. Jonathan tells him to hurry up and kill Edmund so he can see his kid again. Shayne arrives, surprised to see that his brother has been left alone with Colin. "You ever gonna stop running?" Shayne asks. Jonathan says he won't stop as long as he has to protect his kid. It's his 'father instinct'. As they taunt each other, Reva returns and tries joking around with them. Shayne scowls and then leaves. Jonathan begins doing a mocking impression of his brother. Jonathan begins trying to force his mother to take pictures of Jeffrey down. She refuses. He repeats that this is weird and tells her to take the 'always' carving on the mantel down. She says it comes with the house. They run around, teasing each other, and then she tells him how well Bill and Lizzie are doing.
Shayne goes to see his mother. He asks her why there are no pictures of him in her home. He knows they never connected like she did to her other children. "We never had a true connection and it's no one's fault... it never happened for us. How does a parent not have a connection with their kid?" he wonders. She's confused. He blurts out that he never wants his kid to feel the way he does. They have beer and she says he'll be a good father one day. She tells him that she feels connected to him and parenting is a rollercoaster ride.
Take Your Cookies And Go Home.
After bursting into Cross Creek, Shayne starts pounding on the man he saw through the window. He notices it's Jonathan and keeps punching until Reva stops them. They're formally introduced and she gives them icepacks. The boys bicker about the mess with Edmund. Shayne brings up how Jonathan was raised by his uncle Edmund and they begin shouting at each other. Reva out screams them and insists that Jonathan and Edmund would never work together. She orders her sons to hug. They sit down and talk about Sarah before Reva tells Shayne no one can know his brother is there. He leaves. Jonathan drinks from the carton and they talk about how he is like his mom and Shayne is like his dad. Jonathan asks her what Josh thinks of the 'Jeffrey museum'.
