Frank runs into Olivia at the minimart. He suggests that she give Nat and Rafe some time and space to work things out. "What if Natalia needs me?" she asks. He tells her to be careful.
Olivia waits for Emma. When she comes out, they talk about what to get Rafe. Emma wants to make sure that he knows they love him.
Olivia and Emma go to Natalia's. She tells them that Rafe was there but couldn't stay. They eat and then decide to put candles in the cake and blow them out.
This Case Sucks.
Olivia runs into Reva while she's at the gas station. They catch up. Olivia wanders off and looks at some flags. Father Ray wishes her a happy Fourth of July. She thanks him for supporting her relationship with Natalia. He doesn't, and he doesn't mean the church should be making choices for her either, he just thinks that with what's been happening in her life, she hasn't been making clear choices.
Olivia stops by Company and Marina tells her to tell Natalia to stop letting the events in her life dictate everything. She just reacts and everyone else is left to pick up the pieces. Olivia tries to stop her and insists that she knows what she wants. Marina hopes she can talk her into taking control of her own life.
Natalia goes to see Olivia. They're uncomfortable and anxious. Natalia worries that other people will think they are together just because of their situation. She retells their story and gets upset. Olivia stops her and tells her that she loves her and knows how she feels. She doesn't want anyone to believe that they love each other because of their circumstances. Olivia suggests that they take a step back so they prove that they have chosen each other. "I have to quit my job," Nat suggests. They write her a resignation. Nat can hardly believe she just quit and offers to help write her letter of recommendation.
Frank brings his daughter out to dinner at Towers with Henry. Olivia walks over to them. "I'm sorry. I can't take your advice," Olivia tells Marina. She says that Nat is taking control of her life and resigned.
My Time To Sit In The Big Chair.
Rafe walks up to his mother and Olivia and asks them what they are doing. He begins arguing with them. "What the heck was going on just now?" he demands. His mother realizes he's figured things out. Olivia tells him they didn't expect any of this to happen. When Emma comes out, her mother tells her that they're going home. After they leave, Rafe begs his mother to tell him Olivia forced her into this. Nat can't say that. "What does that say about you and Gus... just tell me this is some kind of weird itch you have to scratch," he begs. She can't say that either; she's in love with Olivia. He walks away. She follows. He refuses to accept that she loves Olivia. "When I'm with her, it feels right," she explains. He thinks that she can end it all now that he's back. She wants them to be a family. He doesn't know how she can be serious after everything she's taught him to believe in. "Both of you can go to Hell. That's where you're going to go anyway!" he declares, storming away.
Olivia tracks down Doris at the courthouse and interrupts her 'alone time'. She explains that Rafe got a job today. Doris knows because she got it for him. Olivia explains that Rafe figured things out and didn't take it well. Doris suggests that he may come around to understanding. She tried waiting for the perfect moment to tell her daughter the truth about her but it never came, so maybe this is for the best... Ashlee rushes in and tells her mother about the press conference.
Olivia returns to Natalia's. She's sorry that Rafe found out like this. "So what does this mean for us?" she asks. Nat doesn't know.
