    Why couldn't this have been done BEFORE GL was kicked off the air?

    Check out this article I read in Soap Opera Weekly yesterday......you've got to be kidding!

    MOVE OVER, NIELSENS!

    Could a new alternative to Nielsen ratings provide new hope for soaps?

    On September 10th, a group of media companies, advertisers and agencies announced plans to explore a new ratings measurement system. The group, which calls itself the Coalition for Innovative Media Measurement, or CIMM, includes 14 companies, such as ABC/Disney, CBS and NBC. It will establish a research fund to more accurately measure TV show audiences, reportedly taking into account several different media platforms, like the Internet and DVRs - not just tv viewing.

    The demise of Guiding Light came in April of this year, after it hit a 1.5 in the Nielsen TV ratings...a number that several soaps have hit since then.

    ABC Daytime had no comment about CIMM's potential impact on it's soaps, and reps for NBC and CBS had yet to respond at press time. But a ratings service that counts ALL soap viewers, not matter where or how much they watch, sounds like it could be a boon for daytime.

A lot of people work during the day and the DVR and the computer is the only way we get to watch.We should be counted.

    Oh, please, please, please let this happen. The NEILSEN RATINGS are a TERRIBLE, INACCURATE, and ANTIQUATED measurement of viewership and do not take into account all the possible meduims that are NOW AVAILABLE to consumers. IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    This totally needs to happen. What I have never understood is that someone must always be on bottom, right? So now wich soap is on the bottom are they going to take it off to. If they keep doing that there will be nothing to watch at all!

    Sooooo, can anyone tell me what that means for us, the loyal suffering fans of Guiding Light???
    Are we going to get them back???
