Natalia holds Olivia's hands and asks her what she sees when she looks in her eyes. She sees someone who is strong who she can count on. Natalia asks her to say more. Olivia can't. Nat says they both know how she feels and she feels the same. Emma interrupts the moment. Olivia's nerves are frayed and announces that they won't be going out to deliver her valentines. Nat pulls her aside and reminds her that Phillip is behind bars. When she brings up Frank, Olivia blows up at her and tells her to go.
Bill shows up at the station and asks Frank to let him in to see Pillip. Frank refuses.
Bill goes to see Olivia to talk about Phillip. She's panicking. He sits her down and promises to help keep Emma safe. They suddenly kiss. "That was a blast from the past," he sighs. She needs to feel close to someone and worries about what Phillip will do when he discovers that Emma has 'two mommies'. Bill tells her just to explain that it's 'a ridiculous misunderstanding'. "I don't know what it is," Olivia admits. She never saw what she feels for Natalia coming. Whatever it is, it's more than friendship and it scares her.
Natalia returns home after visiting the hospital. It's been a year since she lost Gus. All that she wanted was to come back here and be with Olivia. Now they need to eat to keep up their strength. Nat offers to go with her to see Phillip. Olivia thinks they need a plan first. Nat tells her they just have to be honest and tell him that Emma lives with two people who love her. "Two people who are exactly what to each other?" Olivia asks.
Lizzie goes to visit Coop at Cedars. She doesn't understand his relationship with her mother, but she didn't want this to happen. Sitting beside him, she tells him how sorry she is for everything she's done to him. She wishes he had listened to her. "I'm not sorry. Alan didn't marry Beth. I got the girl," he groans.
Lillian wakes her daughter up as she sleeps in the waiting room. She's booked her a room at The Beacon. Lillian leaves to see Buzz. Beth goes in to see Coop and Lizzie. He tells them they need to talk so they can forgive and forget. He begs them not to let Alan come between them. Lizzie walks out. Coop tells Beth to go after her daughter.
Beth runs outside. She prays that God won't take Coop away from her... there's so much they haven't done together yet. Lizzie wanders over to her and tells her she saw her father and freaked out. Worried that he is back for revenge, she had him arrested. Lizzie lays into her mother for breaking Alan's heart. She reminds her mother of how much damage Phillip did and tells her that she is weak and 'fickle'. "Love isn't a walk in the park – it's a mugging," Lizzie quips. Beth tells her not to give up on love; if she had, she never would have found Coop. Lizzie knows how that's working out.
Bill finds Lizzie crying. She tells him to go away but he hugs her. He encourages her to forgive her dad and give him another chance. "Stop fighting me. We belong together," he says. He tells her to stay away from Cyrus. She blows up at him. Cyrus and Alan have tried to protect her from him. She accuses him of exploiting all of this to manipulate her. She's seen what love does to people and suggests that he go and visit Coop if he wants to know.
Buzz wakes up on the ground beside Jenna's grave. He only wanted to keep his son safe. He's become so desperate that he is sleeping in a graveyard hoping for a dream and a bit of advice. As he begs for help, Lillian arrives. She tells him that Coop is awake. He cries and hugs her.
Back at the hospital, Frank goes to see Coop and tells him about all of the cards he's been getting. "Look after dad," Coop says. He's sure that Buzz will need him for comfort. Frank tells him it's a two man job. Buzz arrives. "Don't you ever scare me like this again!" he begs. Buzz rambles until his son stops him, telling him that he may not have much time left. Most of his life, Buzz was just someone he sent a card to, but he was always there, even if not in person. He's proud of him. Tears run down Buzz's face. He tells his son that he will be fine and walks out to get a doctor.
An anguished Buzz asks the doctors to check on his son. As he berates them for standing around, Frank pulls him away and Buzz worries that his son has been trying to say goodbye.
Beth returns to Coop's bedside. He tells her not to give up on her daughter. "How can I ever thank you for everything you've brought into my life?" he asks. She smiles and sobs. He wants her to promise never to forget who she is and what she is capable of. She never expected to find love with him, but she has. He freed her. She repeats that she loves him and apologizes for not savoring every moment they had together. Coop wrote something for her, but asks her not to read it until later. He asks her to find his father for him.
She rushes out into the corridor and sends Frank off to find Buzz. When she runs into her mother, she tells her that Coop knows he is about to die. Lillian hurries off to get a doctor and Beth stares down at the paper Coop gave her.
Buzz returns to his son's side. Coop wants to hear a bedtime story so Buzz tells him the story of his birth. "Finish the story," Coop requests. Buzz tells him about his heart attack and how he was blessed to have Coop come back into his life after it. He's never stopped being grateful for him. "Thank you. Good night Dad," Coop gasps. Buzz holds his face in his hands and begs him not to go. "You know what makes me the proudest? I'm just like you," Coop says before his machine begins to beep wildly. Buzz calls for the doctor and the nurses rush in, pushing him aside.
