At Company, Frank and Buzz wait for Coop to return with Beth. They wonder what they will do when he gets back, but Buzz is sure that everything will change. They talk about Coop's book. Frank hasn't finished it yet. He asks Buzz what his book would be called. "'Cautiously Optimistic'," he says. Daisy walks in and Buzz tells her that Uncle Henry is bringing home a new bride. She's confused but tells them that she is very happy with Grady. "We'll take happy wherever we can get it," Buzz says. She wants to set the table for the newlyweds and thinks they need to create a magical moment. Buzz thinks they should be digging a moat but begins digging around for champagne and candles.
Mallet and Marina return to town after a call from the adoption agency. They aren't sure why they've been called back. When they go in to see the adoption agent, she informs them that they have made the waiting list. Marina is overjoyed and leaves to call her family. Mallet stays behind. "We're not moving up on that list ever are we?" he asks. She says there are troubling details... in his wife's background. She was involved with the Santos crime family and that sent up a red flag. He angrily tells her that this isn't over and walks out. When he finds Marina, she's just received a call about a major car accident.
At the church, Lillian tries to hook Lizzie into stopping the wedding. Lizzie says they are going to go through with this. Alan is a sure thing, unlike love. Beth loved Rick and Edmund and Phillip, but all of those relationships ended in disaster. She thinks that her mother should just be happy with what she has. She stares across the room at Bill as he drinks ginger ale from a champagne glass.
Lillian is laying into Alan. He insists that he is saving her daughter. They wait until Beth appears at the end of the aisle. Lillian goes to her daughter and begs her not to do this. Beth says she is doing this for her family's future. Her mother thinks she is being the victim again. Rick tries to talk her out of it next but she won't listen. The wedding march starts and Lizzie tries to get a 'drunk' Bill to sit down. After taking a dig at her and Cyrus, he leaves instead. Beth walks down the aisle slowly.
Lizzie finds Bill outside and takes his keys, refusing to let him drive drunk. He begins kissing her but she pushes him away. He smiles smugly and walks off. She chases after him, saying that she's never known the real him. She calls a cab for him. He pretends to sleep. After she wakes him up, he tells her that she is as pretty as Roxy. She helps him to the cab.
Phillip pulls Coop from a burning car. After he drags him across the road, the car explodes. Phillip carries Coop to the hospital and drops him on a gurney. He yells for a doctor and then runs out. Coops lies there unnoticed for awhile. He coughs up blood and begins to call for Beth.
Back inside the church, Alan begins to read the vow he wrote, promising to be with Beth through her failures and with the gossip. He loves and forgives her, vowing to be her constant. "Always, I will watch over you," he says. The reverend moves on to ask if there are any objections. Phillip walks in. As he walks up the aisle, everyone's jaws drop. Stunned, Beth slowly walks down the aisle to him. As she reaches out to touch his face, she faints. Alan welcomes Phillip home. As they help Beth up, they notice blood on her dress where Phillip touched her. He explains that there has been an accident. After pulling the man from the crash, he realized it was Coop. Beth runs out and everyone chases after her. Rick drives Beth to the hospital. "Let's take a walk," Phillip says to his father.
Mallet and Marina arrive at the crash scene. They're surprised to learn that there was no one found at the scene. It only takes a moment for her to notice that it's her grandfather's car. She calls Company and is relieved to hear Buzz's voice. She tells him that the car has been totaled. "Who was in the car?" she cries. Mallet takes the phone and explains that no one was found but it doesn't look good. Marina sits on the road and cries before they begin searching. She finds Coop's cell phone and sees that the last call was from Alan.
At Company, Daisy tries to keep everyone calm. Buzz and Frank run off to the hospital. Alone, Daisy picks up a candle and puts it in the window. Mallet and Marina arrive. Daisy explains that Coop was trying to break up the wedding. The cops run out. Bill arrives. Daisy tells him that there was an accident. She becomes upset but he keeps her calm.
When Buzz and Frank arrive at Cedars, Buzz discovers Coop laying on a gurney. They grab a doctor in the hall and drag him in. Buzz yells at them for leaving his son without treatment. Frank pulls him outside and Mallet and Marina arrive. She holds her father as Frank and Mallet step aside. Mallet explains that the last call came from Alan. Lillian and Beth arrive. Beth curls up in a corner in shock.
Phillip walks his father over to his gravestone. Alan tells him he looks great. "For a dead man?" he asks. Alan tells him a lot of things have changed since he left. As he kneels down, a gun sticks out of his pants, and Phillip agrees; it doesn't even hurt where he was shot anymore.
