Telling stories about the originals.

The creator of "Grey's Anatomy," Shonda Rhimes, recently chatted with TV Line to give some insight on the happenings on the season finale. Concerned Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) fans can rest easy - Shonda confirms that the duo is not headed for divorce, though they are having trouble in their marriage.

Rhimes said when she wrote the season-ender she was focused on the original characters, noting that the actors who portray them are in the last year of their contracts for season 8 and may or may not re-sign with the show. She commented, "It’s been seven really amazing years. Everyone has a choice to make. All the originals are in play."

As for Christina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd), Shonda admits she hasn't made up her mind what will happen with the pair, who split up on the finale. She also noted that things would have been different for Alex (Justin Chambers) and Lucy (Rachael Taylor) had the actress not had her "Charlie's Angels" pilot picked up. Scott Foley (Henry) was another guest star who taped a pilot, but it was not picked up. Shonda admitted, "I wish all the best for Scott, but we were holding our breath." She confirmed that they hope to have Henry and Teddy's (Kim Raver) story continue next season.
