Glee Recap: A Katy Or A Gaga.

    Thursday, November 07 2013
Kurt recruits for his band, Marley feels the pressure to be someone she isn't, and Sue is ready to battle Will again.

Will gathers New Directions in the choir room with a list of their competition at Nationals. Tina screams when she hears Throat Explosion is one of them. Tina is worried they can’t compete with Gagas when they are all Katy Perrys. Will tells them their goal this week is to do both impeccably.

In New York, Kurt shows up at the restaurant and asks Santana, Rachel and Dani to join his new band. Rachel thinks it’s too soon after Finn and needs to put her energy toward "Funny Girl." Santana and Dani are in, but want a say in who joins.

At McKinley, Penny shows off her fake tattoo to Sam at the lockers. She admits to having a musical dark side. Later, Sam asks Blaine for advice. Blaine thinks Penny needs to see Sam’s Gaga performance. Meanwhile, Artie and Kitty complain about the assignment. He wonders if she is okay dating someone so different from her. She kisses him in response.

Back in New York, Kurt has rented a room for the band auditions, but only one person shows up. A very Ziggy Stardust Starchild sings Lady Gaga’s "Marry the Night," and kills it. Santana can’t get enough but Kurt is only on board if he tones down his look.

Back at McKinley, Bree shows up in Sue’s office wearing only crime scene tape. After hearing about the glee club’s Gaga/Katy week, Sue deems it the most annoying thing they have ever done. In the hall Marley tries to convince Jake to go to a Julie Andrews marathon. He loves her but wants to shake things up. He worries how she’ll pull off a Gaga when she is such a Katy.

In the auditorium Sam hands out the sheet music for "Applause" and tells the other wannabe Gagas they are performing in front of the entire school. Later, Sam catches up with Becky in the hall and asks her to get the word out. She agrees, but only if he shuts up.

In their apartment, Rachel can’t believe Kurt passed on Starchild. Kurt wants to be the one everyone wants to see and hear. Rachel loves that Kurt makes his own path. She assures him he is a true talent and urges him to call Starchild back.

Back at McKinley Bree intercepts Jake and Marley and asks him to help out the Cheerios with some choreography. Marley encourages him to do it. Later, Sue gets on the intercom with the announcements. Becky, dressed as a Gaga nun, urges everyone to open their laptops. They do, and it’s a video of Sam promoting the Gaga performance. Sam asks Penny if she’ll be there and she reluctantly agrees.

Unique, Tina and Jake try to come up with their Perry performance in the choir room, while Jake leaves to help Bree and the Cheerios. Unique tries to convince Marley that Bree is poison and drags her to the rehearsal to see their moves. Unique urges Marley to go full-on Gaga

Sam, Marley, Artie, Ryder and Blaine perform "Applause" in the auditorium, but Marley was too Katy. Will suspends her for ignoring what the team needed. Later, Tina, Kitty and Unique argue over their song. They decide to drop the gimmicks and strip down the performance.

Starchild – Elliott - visits Kurt at the restaurant. Elliott moved to New York to be in something special. He didn’t get into NYADA but will be whoever Kurt wants him to be. Kurt tells him he is in the band however he wants to be.

Back at McKinley Sam finds Penny in her office and she admits Lady Gaga isn’t her thing. She only dated bad boys to shake up her vanilla image. She is more into Katy Perry. Sam grabs her and they kiss.

In the auditorium Tina, Unique, Jake and Kitty sing a stripped down version of Katy Perry’s "Wide Awake." Later, Marley catches up with Jake at the lockers, apologetic about missing the performance. He invites her over after school and asks her to keep her pink Katy wig on.

In Jake’s bedroom Marley stops him from going very far. She doesn’t want to be pressured. He tells her there are girls that would let him be in their pants no problem and she screams at him to go be with one of them.

Jake finds Bree in the Cheerios rehearsal space and asks her if she wants to go somewhere private. She grabs a coat so she doesn’t get grass stains on her uniform.

In New York they try to decide their band name. Rachel offhandedly suggests Pamela Lansbury and they all love it – and convince Rachel to join too.

Back at McKinley Will calms the kids down when they hear Throat Explosion is doing Gaga. This will only push them harder. Sue comes in and suspends all the kids because of their dress code. Will is shocked she is starting this feud again and they both agree to bring it. The kids break into Katy Perry’s "Roar." Marley arrives and Jake looks nervous when Bree stands next to her.

Back in New York Pamela Lansbury practice the same song.

    Hollie’s thoughts:
Adam Lambert! So great to see him on this show - what charisma that guy has, and a perfect fit for this new band of New York misfits. So with things fabulous in New York, where do we go from here back at McKinley? Now that we know next season is the last, it’s time to start thinking end game. And with so little time left, how much can we really be expected to devote to the barely-developed new cast? Not much. As always, some of the best moments were with Becky, so it was nice to see her back. As for Pamela Lansbury - more please!

I was irritated by the Marley/Jake/Bree sex thing. We went through that with Rachel/Finn/Santana in the past. Loved Pamela Landsbury! I wish they didn't go back to the Sue vs Will fued again although I loved it before.
