    The Spanish Teacher.

    Tuesday, February 07 2012
Rachel tells Kurt and Mercedes about Finn's proposal and Will assigns the kids a Spanish singing assignment. Ricky Martin guest stars!

Will and his male glee-clubbers perform "La Cucaracha" in Spanish class, much to the disgust of the other students. Figgins tells Will that he needs to learn to speak better Spanish so that Figgins can consider Will for a tenured teaching position at McKinley. Will signs up for Spanish night classes with instructor David Martinez (Ricky Martin) and the two immediately connect. As David shares that it's his dream to teach kids, Will dreams about teaching his glee kids some Spanish through Latin music. Meanwhile, Sue meets with the boys from New Directions and encourages them to donate their sperm to a sperm clinic. An appalled Will questions Sue, who reveals that she's looking to become a mother and needs a stud donor to be the father! Sue also shares that she's likely to be the one who receives the tenured teaching position from Figgins. In reality, Figgins is disgusted with Sue's recent performance as a coach and commands her to work with the coach of the synchronized swim team to regain her competitive edge.

At glee practice, Will introduces the kids' assignment for the week, which is to perform songs in Spanish or by Spanish artists. He introduces David Martinez who encourages the kids to sing with duende, which is Spanish soul and passion. To illustrate, David performs a Spanish/English rendition of "Sexy and I Know It" by LMFAO. Later, Mercedes and Sam meet with Emma for advice about their relationship. Emma recommends that the two spend a week without talking so that they can discover their true feelings for one another. Meanwhile, Sue is irritated by the way the synchronized swim coach is helping her run the Cheerios. After practice, the swim coach warns Sue that she's looking to take over as Cheerios head coach once Sue goes off on maternity leave. Later that night, Rachel tells a bewildered Kurt and Mercedes that her and Finn have gotten engaged and asks for their support.

Back at McKinley, Mercedes sings "Don't Wanna Lose You" by Gloria Estefan while Sam watches in admiration. The guys then perform a mash-up of "Bamboleo" by Simon Diaz and "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias. The girls tell an anxious Will that they can't wait to see how he is going to upstage David's performance. Later, Emma meets with Sue and demands to know why Sue has suggested that Will donate sperm for Sue's baby. In a touching moment, Sue reveals that having a baby with Will's sperm would actually give her kid a chance to grow up as a loving human being. Meanwhile, Kurt meets with Finn and blasts him for not revealing that he and Rachel had gotten engaged. When Finn maintains that Rachel is the only good thing he has going in his life, Kurt reminds Finn that he's better than just being the one who will "hold Rachel's purse in the background" for the rest of his life.

In the hallway, Sue reveals her motherhood plans to Santana before telling Will that she's found someone more macho to be her baby's daddy. At home, Will keeps busy by worrying about how he will upstage David's performance. He becomes angry and sarcastic with Emma when she tries to give him some advice using her guidance counselor pamphlets. Back at McKinley, David and Santana perform "La Isla Bonita" by Madonna. When it's time for Will to take the stage, he busts out in full matador apparel and performs an English/Spanish rendition of "A Little Less Conversation" by Elvis. While the majority of the kids enjoyed it, a disgusted Santana reveals that she's the one who had complained about Will's Spanish and that she's sick of him trying to teach something he knows nothing about. She says that he is an amazing teacher, but only when he's doing something he genuinely loves, like glee club.

Finally, Mercedes and Sam's one week of not speaking to each other has expired. As the two excitedly rush to one another, Mercedes is halted by her boyfriend who says that he's taking her out to lunch. A hesitant Mercedes goes with him, leaving Sam all alone in the hallway. At Spanish night class, Will reveals that Figgins is offering David a job as the new Spanish teacher at McKinley since Will has decided to become a history teacher instead. Later, Will is amazed to hear that Emma's pamphlets have actually gotten popular across the state of Ohio, with thousands of them being purchased and printed for students at Ohio State. To top things off, Emma has also been selected as the teacher to receive a tenured spot at McKinley! Will, sorry for the way he's treated Emma, offers his apologies and says that, from this moment forward, he will make her feel as special as she truly is to him.

    Mario's Mutterings:

Ricky Martin's "Glee" debut has finally come, and though I thought he did an amazing job, I was left with an overall sense of disappointment in tonight's episode. Don't get me wrong, I dug the whole Spanish angle and the way the kids were singing in a different language. That was creative and innovative. I guess I was just a bit disappointed with the overall tone of the episode; it all felt very sad and too low-key for my liking. Where was all the "glee?" I don't think I'm alone in feeling this way, but feel free to sound off in the comments section. In the meantime, how do you say "see you next week" en Espanol?
