    Born This Way.

    Tuesday, April 26 2011
Emma faces her obsessions, Rachel decides to get a nose job, Kurt returns to McKinley, and Will uses Lady Gaga's music to teach the kids about self-acceptance!

In the auditorium, Finn accidentally breaks Rachel's nose while practicing a dance number. The doctor tells Rachel that this would be a perfect opportunity to make some vanity adjustments to her nose, which may improve her voice and definitely enhance her appearance. Will worries that Rachel and the rest of the kids are too hung up on their imperfections, and decides to help them embrace their individual differences. He tells the gang that they will be performing Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" as an anthem for self-love and acceptance.

While Santana schemes about ways to win the title of prom queen, she discovers that Karofsky is checking out Sam's behind. Realizing that Karofsky is gay, Santana starts to orchestrate a plan that will eventually lead her to convincing Kurt to come back to McKinley. In the meantime, she blackmails Karofsky with her newfound knowledge and demands that he dates her so that the two can become prom king and queen and rule the school. Meanwhile, at the encouragement of Puck, Lauren throws her hat into the prom queen race.

Rachel brings Quinn to the doctor's office with her to serve as the picture-perfect model of what Rachel wants her nose to look like. The two sing a mash-up of "Unpretty" by TLC and "I Feel Pretty" from "West Side Story." Finn later confronts Quinn for encouraging Rachel to get a nose job, and goes on to sing Sammy Davis Jr.'s "I've Gotta Be Me." Finn tackles his self-consciousness about dancing by busting a move with Mike throughout the entire performance. Rachel stands up and announces that she has decided to go ahead with her nose job. Finn speaks out and tells Rachel that she is beautiful just the way she is, but Rachel says that she's already made up her mind.

In the staff room, Will approaches Emma and laments his disappointment that she is unwilling to share with the kids the severity of her obsessive-compulsive disorder. He then accuses her of being a counselor solely because it helps her dodge her own personal problems. Meanwhile, at glee practice, Karofsky gives a fake speech about how sorry he is for bullying New Directions and Kurt, and says that Santana is the one who has helped him to see the light. Karofsky then reveals that he is going to try and make amends by helping to bring Kurt back to McKinley.

Principal Figgins meets with Kurt, Karofsky and their fathers to try to convince Kurt to return to McKinley High. Kurt speaks privately to Karofsky and learns that Santana orchestrated this whole plan to help her secure votes for prom queen. Kurt says that he'll go along with the plan and return to McKinley, provided that Karofsky continues to educate himself about gays and lesbians. As Kurt's transfer becomes official, Blaine and the Warblers show up to McKinley to sing goodbye with a performance of "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane. Kurt and Blaine exchange a hug, and Kurt laments that the two will never really say goodbye to one another.

In the glee room, Kurt basks in his return to McKinley by singing "As If We Never Said Goodbye" from "Sunset Boulevard." Meanwhile, Lauren reveals to Quinn that she has done some digging and discovered that Quinn's real name is Lucy, and that Quinn used to be fat with an ugly nose. A teary-eyed Quinn admits that she was never always this beautiful, and is mortified when she realizes that Lauren has plastered old images of "Lucy" around the school. Later, Kurt takes Rachel to the mall and tells her that she needs to think about how Barbara Streisand would never get a nose job to please others. Kurt, the rest of New Directions and a flash mob of fellow shoppers lead Rachel through a dance routine to "Barbara Streisand" by Duck Sauce.

Emma meets with a therapist to discuss her obsessive-compulsive disorder. The therapist encourages Emma to admit that she has a problem, and Emma admits that she feels ashamed about her illness. She is prescribed pills that will help regulate the neurotransmitters in her brain. Back at McKinley, Finn tells Quinn that he loves her for who she is and the two kiss. Meanwhile, Lauren's plan to embarrass Quinn seems to have backfired, as Quinn begins to receive more support from the "losers" around the school. Lauren apologizes to Quinn for sabotaging her campaign, and the two seem to share a tender moment.

Santana and Brittany discuss the gang's upcoming Gaga performance where each member of New Directions will wear a plain shirt with a label describing the way they were born. Brittany suggests that Santana wear a shirt about being lesbian, but Santana wants no part of it. The kids gather together and model their shirts, each which highlight a unique aspect about themselves. For example, Kurt's shirt says, "LIKES BOYS," while Rachel's says, "NOSE." Emma joins the group during the performance wearing a shirt that says, "OCD." Proudly modeling their shirts, the gang performs Lady Gaga's “Born This Way.”

    Mario's Mutterings

The Gaga episode we've all been waiting for is now behind us, and I find myself left with mixed emotions. As a whole, I thought the episode delivered with some definite bright spots (Kurt's return to McKinley being the biggest, of course). With that said, I think poor song selection once again spoiled the overall flow of the episode. In what was supposed to be "Glee's" biggest episode yet, I think the show would have been more effective as a regular 60 minute airing. What the hell was up with that flash-mob "Barbara Streisand" dance at the mall? Moments like that left me scratching my head. C'mon, "Glee," stop trying to be hip and just bring back the classics a la season one!

IF they really want to end the season on a high note, they should be trying their best to get Barbra Streisand on the show! That would be awesome!
