At practice, the gang learns that Puck is in juvie after driving his mom’s car into a convenience store. Will welcomes Sam to the club and informs the group that they'll compete in a duets assignment this week, with the winning pair awarded dinner for two.
Kurt assumes Sam is gay based solely on his hair and asks him to be partners. Santana and Mercedes pair up based on their voices. Brittany partners with Artie after telling him she wants to be his girlfriend. Tina, upset that Mike wants to dance but not sing with her, asks Artie to be partners. Artie reveals he's already taken.
Finn tells Kurt to stay away from Sam so that Sam isn't targeted by school bullies. Kurt’s dad, now at home recovering from his heart arrhythmia, also tells Kurt to stop coming on so strong to other guys. Back at glee, Rachel and Finn practice "Don’t Go Breaking My Heart" by Elton John and Kiki Dee. When they realize they’re likely to win, Rachel decides they must purposely lose and make Sam win so he’ll stick around for Nationals.
In the hallway, Sam is hit in the face with a Slurpee and Quinn helps to wash it off. After Kurt tells Sam they don't need to be partners, Sam tries to duet with Quinn. The two almost kiss but Quinn pulls away. After some coaxing from Rachel and Finn, Quinn and Sam again decide to partner up.
Back at glee, Mercedes and Santana perform "River Deep - Mountain High" by Ike and Tina Turner. Kurt decides to perform solo since he's used to being alone, anyway. He sings "Le Jazz, Hot!" from Victor/Victoria. Mike and Tina perform "Sing!" from A Chorus Line. Later, Artie admits to Brittany that he can’t stop thinking about Tina. Brittany takes his virginity to help him forget about his ex-girlfriend.
Rachel and Finn give an offensive performance to spoil their chance of winning. Dressed in religious costumes, they sing "With You I'm Born Again" by Syreeta Wright and Billy Preston. Sam and Quinn's then perform "Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. Later, Artie breaks up with Brittany after finding out she’s using him for his voice.
Will reveals that Sam and Quinn have won the competition. At dinner, Sam confirms he isn't gay but does put lemon juice in his hair. Quinn suggests this be their first date together. At school, Rachel tells Kurt that he feels lonely, but is not alone, and that she wants to sing with him. The two sing a mash-up of "Happy Days Are Here Again" and "Get Happy" by Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand.
It was nice to see "Glee" get back to its more light-hearted nature this week. Though I wasn't familiar with the majority of songs, I found myself humming along and really enjoying each of the performances. How great is it that Mike finally got to sing? Perhaps the writers will allow him to do it more often. And how about Sam revealing that he's indeed NOT gay? Looks like Kurt will be looking for love in another place ...
