Lovelymarlena – Feel free to quote me anytime. Over the years, I've pieced together what I know of the Cassadine family history, mostly from comments made by Helena and Stephan, and sometimes when they, or someone else, mentions some Cassadine family tradition, or an heirloom, like Spencer did today. I just presumed the rest.

First, a little real world history...

WWI devastated the Russian economy, creating the iconic bread lines and shortages which led to protests, strikes, and civil unrest among the working class – mostly women, whose husbands were lost in the war, while the minority wealthy Russian Noble class lived in ostentatious luxury. This led to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, sparked by the writings of Marx, Lenin, and Trotsky promoting the socialist ideals of a classless social system, and state control of all production. The Revolution resulted in the overthrow and eventual execution of the Czarist ruling family, the Romanovs, and the confiscation of the properties of the Russian Nobility. Many of the nobility underestimated the level of dissatisfaction among the people, and thought they would be satisfied with the abdication of the last Czar, Nicholas, only to find themselves declared “former people,” with all their money and property seized by the new socialist government. Those few who anticipated trouble, and managed to emigrate with whatever wealth they could manage to smuggle out of the country before the Revolution, were vilified and branded as traitors, because it was argued that their wealth was the result of the labor of generations of the oppressed peasant class, and now it was considered the property of ALL the people.

On the other hand, from the Nobles' perspective, they were simply trying to preserve their heritage, their family fortunes, and their birthrights. History, of course, is written by the winners.

    Back to GH...

The Cassadines (which is not really a Russian sounding name) apparently escaped to Greece with their wealth mostly intact, and from there increased their family fortune immensely by investing in shipping (and presumably smuggling) goods and weapons around the world. As I understand it, they were profiteers in WWII, dealing with BOTH sides of the conflict, hedging their bets, and doubling their profits. That's why they are so well connected with the shadier sides of governments from all around the world. They know where a lot of the bodies are buried because they probably buried many of them themselves.

Their wealth and contacts allowed them to exert considerable world wide political influence, and the Cassadines were the “power behind the throne” in many countries. That's why Mikkos thought his ambition to “Rule the World” was actually the Cassadine's rightful destiny. He thought he was essentially ruling the world already! At the time of the Ice Princess/Freeze the World storyline, he believed that everything since the Revolution had led him to the point where he finally had the means and the influence to restore his family to the exalted position they once held in Russia, before the peasants' uprising drove them from their ancestral lands. Apparently now, Victor shares that same ambition, and if things don't change pretty soon, in a few years, that entitled little egomaniac, Spencer probably will too.

scrimmage.... always can count on you to give the history or the story behind the story.

thoughts on Spencer (great little actor). possibility while Leslie and Laura was raising Spencer they watched a lot of old movies. Spencer picked up some old fashioned romancing pointers. like watching soaps at 5 with mom. very easy to pick up some bad pointers.

Wow, the ladies of GH looked gorgeous, except maybe Lulu who looked like she looks everyday on the show. Couldn't she have done something with her hair?! As for the men, Julian looked like a he was going to the supermarket -- just absolutely awful with his shirt buttoned like that.

    Good morning

This was a good episode and I could even overlook the overplayed kiddie triangle, including Spencer's over the top attitude, if It means Ben's true paternity is revealed, as well as Britt's compliance with her mother's plan from the beginning. If this story could wrap up by the time the Nurse's Ball arrives, even better.
I hope Liz takes the letter to Dante and Lulu and walks away from the issue.

I agree with everyone that the women looked fine, but the men were disappointing in their choices, with the exception of Ric and Sonny.

Loved the scenes with Sonny and Olivia meeting their grandson Ben. Leave it to Olivia to state the obvious, Ben looks like Lulu. I liked the way the little guy started jabbering when Lulu went it to see him.

I'm starting to feel sorry for Tracy if this an imposter posing as Luke, and is not some medical issue that has altered Luke's personality. Tracy is sleeping with an unknown enemy and she needs to open her eyes to what is happening, stop being in denial and look for answers.

    Have a good day everybody.

    Good MOrning All!!! TGIF!

I have only watched Wed's epi this week so far....hoping to watch Thurs & Fri epies when I get home today since I don't have to go pick up the hub from work..finally got his car back...

So Emma put Spencer in him place...good for her! Too bad she didn't pop him one when he yelled at her & made her cry...poor sweet baby, everyone is making her cry!

How long will it take Lizzzz to go read the confession out loud to the guests???? I think that she should find Dante & Lulu & just give it to them & let them handle it as they see fit!!!

Tracy, open your eyes girl...this is NOT OUR LUKE!!! It can't be...just as Faison was Puke/Duke when he was in the Duke mask...this is "You're Gonna Make Me Puke/Luke"! At least Faison was going after a grown woman close to his age, not a 21ish girl that is younger than all his kids & dating his great nephew...just sick!

Can't wait to see Olivia & Ben together! That should be good! As much as she fussed over little Connie/Georgie little Ben should be spoiled rotten in no time!!!

Off to read the posts....everyone have a great day & a wonderful weekend if I don't make it back on before then...Well Wishes & Healing/Comforting Prayers to All!

Good Morning and Happy Friday. Just watched the Thursday epi and caught up on the posts. I thought this was a good installment, as given the 'gala event', it was actually like watching GH of yore. ITA with all posters who mention the fashion overall being hits, with Slimas and Ick being clear misses, particularly Ick. Baby Ben redefines adorable..when he smiles and babbles, he melts your heart. What a sweet child. And I actually laughed out loud when Lucas did his faux German accent commenting to Brad on Frau Blucher being terrifying, and Brad snapping "ya think".

Bayou ~ loved your posit that little Spencer could be an affluenza 'up and comer'. Oh yeah.

Scrimmage ~ your posit that, unless things change, little Spencer will follow in Uncle Victor's footsteps. True Dat.

And please let Liz do the right thing with the "letter". Walk straight to LuLu and Dante (and Olivia and Sonny if they are handy), and discreetly give them the letter. Watch them read it, and turn and walk away. Mission accomplished.

Soap Bubbles, I suggest that Liz RUNS to get the heck out of dodge, because Britt and Liesl will be out for blood when their evil scheme is finally revealed. Brad can claim that he was strong-armed or worse by these two pitiful excuses for doKtors. Run, Liz, Run!!!

Posted by Soap Bubbles at Friday, March 21 2014 09:03 AM

lovethosedimples ~ You are so right. Liz needs to get out of Dodge on her own steam, or go into WITSEC (witness protection) which would entail relocation. If she insists on staying in PC, she should look into a latex mask 'play'. That's been known to work in PC.

Soap Bubbles-- When the little continental dude offered Emma the tray of pig in the blanket, I wish she would have asked him if Alfred was all out of foie gras. Shut his pompous little hiney down.
