Fromthestart – You are a wise man, and I would do well to follow your example, but...

Maxie is NOT a victim. Even if she has been misled by Britt, and the baby turns out to be Dante and Lulu's, in which case it would turn out to be a case of “no harm, no foul,” as far as the baby is concerned, it still doesn't matter as far as Maxie's culpability because it's her INTENT to lie to Dante, Lulu, and Spinelli. She is the ONLY person behind this terrible, inexcusably heartless deception. Nobody manipulated her into making THOSE decisions, and in fact she used Frisco to make sure Britt didn't reveal her scheme.

It was MAXIE who couldn't bring herself to tell Dante and Lulu that she tripped and miscarried their baby before they left for Turkey.

It was MAXIE who wanted to hide the fact that she and Spinelli had sex on NYE, and when it was exposed...

It was MAXIE who decided to pass off Spinelli's baby as Dante and Lulu's, and coerced Dr. Britt to go along with her story.

It's MAXIE who is willfully hiding the fact that she is carrying Spinelli's child from him.

It's MAXIE who intends to give away her child with Spinelli, and to never let him know he has a son or a daughter, even though she is aware that he desperately wants children, and that Ellie is unlikely to give him any.

Maxie's intentions are NOT good, they're almost unbelievably cruel and deceitful, on a level with anything Heather has ever done, short of murder. If Maxie was truly well intentioned, she would've been honest with Dante and Lulu about losing their baby, and she would've told Spinelli that she was carrying his child. The ONLY reason why she hasn't is because she doesn't want them to think that she's as irresponsible as everyone was afraid she was. This is TOTALLY about Maxie saving face, and she's willing to sacrifice a Spixie baby just to save herself some embarrassment and the unpleasantness of telling her best friend and the man she claims to love the cold, hard truth.

The REAL victims here are Dante and Lulu, who have been denied the opportunity to grieve over the loss of their unborn child, Spinelli, who is not only being denied the joy of anticipating fatherhood, but whose potentially only child is in danger of being given away without his knowledge or consent. And of course, there's the baby itself. If Maxie has her way, that child will never know who it's real parents are. Heck, the kid's supposed mother doesn't even know who SHE is right now, so that might even out, but still...

Even when the truth comes out, which of course it will, everyone will realize that this was a horrible thing for Maxie to even PLAN to do to her own child and to the people that love her. That's why I think Maxie has already crossed a line from which there is no turning back.

I remember in the beginning, I was hoping that this surrogacy storyline would be played for laughs, like if Lucy was carrying Fred and Ethel's baby. Instead, we're looking at potentially the utter destruction of Maxie's character. What a shame. It did NOT have to be this way.

    Scrimmage: Excellent points on Maxie.

Nite all. Time for wine in hot tub.

The other sad truth behind what Maxie is doing that no one is talking about is that she obviously doesn't WANT the baby she's carrying – HER OWN BABY! Despite her rationalizations that she's “doing it for Dante and Lulu,” what she's REALLY doing is looking for an easy way to avoid not only the unpleasant truth, but also the responsibilities of motherhood, by trying to pass her child off as the biological child of her best friend. Maxie sees this deception as a convenient way to solve all her problems. Her baby will have a good home with loving parents, Maxie can resume her fashion career, unencumbered by motherhood, and Spinelli will never suspect that he's a father, at least until the kid is about ten, and graduating from MIT. It's a perfect plan! Perfectly despicable, that is. Frankly, it's the most fiendish evil plot on General Hospital in memory, mainly because it's so simple, and because it could very easily work. And it probably would, if not for Ellie.

Scrimmage....You're not giving Maxie any credit that she will do the right thing and come clean with everybody regardless of the consequences.
We saw her reaction to feeling the baby kick on Friday, as that baby gets bigger and Maxie gets more attached to it, the reality of the situation will hit her and she won't be able to give up her baby, with or without Spinelli.
ELLIE'S actions are only going to serve to precipitate the inevitable.
If Britt was the clever person she thinks she is, she will hopefully have adjusted the medical records, not only to facilitate Maxie's plan, but to cover her involvement in it as well from a professional point.

I'm very impressed with SCRIMMAGE'S points of debate regarding the Maxie & Ellie situation. Does he do his research or what !!! Let's see the "other" side argue with those facts......Now - SCRIMMAGE could you move just a little to your left. Yes that's it - now our opponents in this argument will see that I am "directly" behind you in everything you say. As "point man" though you may have to take the brunt of the "weak" arguments that may be hurled against our valiant stand.

    The Maxie debate

Let me begin by saying I have never been a fan of hiding the paternity story lines that all soaps use, but this story line is what soaps do all the time. So if this is the most heinous act in soap history, here are just a few runner ups in that category.

    Monica - AJ from Alan
    Alexis - Kristina from Sonny
Sam - Unborn from Sonny (isn't that how Jason and Sam grew close)
    Carly - Michael from AJ
    Carly/Jax - Spencer from Nick

I'm sure there are more, this is just off the top of my head.

I guess my point is this is just a soap staple, not the most heinous act in soap history.

Thundering herd...Excellent point and I share the same feeling about hating all these baby dramas. They are never as entertaining as they are meant to be.
