My friend emailed this article on Steve Burtons Exit

February 25th On-Air On-Soaps interview with Steve Burton (ex-Jason) toward the end Burton barely hints at what could be construed as discontent with the ways the storyline could’ve turned involving his character, Sam, and new guy in town, John McBain. Aware of the popularity of Kelly Monaco and Michael Easton from the now-defunct GH spinoff, PC, as vampires in love, Livvie and Caleb, Burton didn’t want that alone to be the deciding factor if he was still around.

He claimed there wasn’t any ill will towards incoming OLTL stars, Easton (McBain) and Roger Howarth (Todd) — not now anyway, not when he’s older and wiser — but he had concerns about how the writers treated Jason and Sam with McBain in the picture. “I didn’t mind the whole McBain/Sam/Jason triangle,” Burton explained. “I just thought; just don’t make it about something that didn’t happen on our show. The only thing I ever said was, ‘If you want to break us up, great. Just do it in a way that is justifiable.’ I am all about drama. I am on a soap opera. If you want to break us up, and have us find our way back to each other, awesome. But I wanted it to be a valid, as opposed to the fact that Michael and Kelly worked on another show together.”

Burton also had to go over familiar territory in this interview: leaving GH, did he leave to retire or not, was it always in the plan to join Y&R once his former boss, executive producer Jill Farren Phelps went there? He did admit to talk of a “fly-in deal” during negotiations, where he could still move to Nashville with his family as planned, but come in for shorter periods to film GH and go back home. But nothing came of it, and he was already out the door anyway. It seemed TPTB weren’t given much warning in advance, as negotiations progressed, but executive producer Frank Valentini/head writer Ron Carlivati did the best they could with that time. Burton elaborated: “I do not fault GH at all. I joke about that I was ‘shot
and kicked in the water like a dirty dog.’ (Laughs) My last tape day was coming up quick, and they had written so far ahead. Story-wise, I know Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati did what they were capable of doing at the time, considering that my end date was coming up so fast. I am
sure if they knew ahead that I was leaving for sure in two months, I am sure they would have had a great send-off for Jason.”

As sad as it was to leave his soap opera home and all the friends he made there — Maurice Benard (Sonny) couldn’t bear sticking around later that afternoon to say good-bye — Burton said he was excited about starting over as the new kid on Y&R. He got comfortable at GH, not phoning it in by any means, but just comfortable and believed he needed to get revved up again.

Hey NJ Devils. I've seen that article. Sounds so politically correct but there is also quite a bit of reading between the lines.

I really have missed a lot. Who is Susie?

I liked the smoldering hot look John McBain gave Sam when she was defending them at the jail. JMO These two are hot together.

I liked Liz's scene with Steve that she loved her brother no matter what he did.

Dexdon it's good to have you back posting.

Rans so agree with you about all things Sabrina.

Ransomha, why do you think Sabrina only had one year of nursing school? When did they say that? Back when I was a girl, nursing was learned on the job, in a hospital for about three years, supplemented by classroom study. Things have gradually changed so that nurses spend four years at University getting a bachelor's degree. I am not sure how much time they actually spend in a hospital gaining practical experience under supervision, but I sure hope they spend some. Sabrina's one year of hospital experience might be a requirement after graduation from college.

I DO NOT think that Sabrina cheated.

Thee is a big difference between hating a character and hating an actor. I think the suggestion that Lulu disappear for a while and come back as a recast is a sensible way to make a new actress more acceptable. The problem Jen Lilly faced was that it was sudden and did not give some people time to adjust. I thought the viewers who attacked Jen and the lovely actress who played Siobahnn were unnecessarily cruel.

I agree with all posters who feel the vampire story should END NOW! Let's have more down to earth human problems, the bickering Quartermains, Molly's spots, Frisco's selfishness.

The bedside wedding ceremony was totally ridiculous and Olivia came across as desperate to land a husband. She is a woman in her mid 40's yet she was dressed in a white gown and veil. Talk about tacky!! Who did she think she was - Elizabeth Taylor? Hasn't anyone told her that the bare shouldered strapless gown went out a few years ago, and that she was far too old to carry it off. I know that it was her first wedding, but all things considered, a knee length slim fitting dress in a soft cream or pearl color with either a hat or feathered fascinator headress would have been more tasteful.

That was one gabby policeman from Memphis. Telling everyone within earshot all the evidence and how they had uncovered it. Maybe I missed it, that bit, but I did not hear him read Steven his Miranda rights.

Aussie-1, I believe seeps refers to sweeping the ratings, hopefully not off the floor.

    OFF TOPIC:

I am also looking forward to seeing the new Pope elected, but I hope he doesn't have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. I would like to see a non European pope for the first time, and particularly, one who can put their house in order and forge a leaner, meaner Vatican.

Some of you really need to find a new show to watch or go apply for the writer's job if you can do better! Can't please everybody all of the time!
