Lulu and Maxie confront Patrick, Jason tells Liz what he saw, and John doesn’t want to ignore what happened with Sam.
Sam and John admire the fireworks by the dock. They kiss. Jason catches the two of them before leaving. Sam pulls away – she thought she heard something. Alone, they start kissing again. They pull apart and Sam thinks she had too much to drink. John knows they have crossed the line but what is between them is too big to ignore. It has been happening between them for a long time and the more they deny it the stronger it gets. He has no regrets. Whatever is between them he is glad it is there. She does not want him to betray his family over a pointless, drunken kiss. She wants to make it official – this never happened. He is going back to Llanview and she wonders why it always feels like they are saying goodbye. He is going to miss her.
Jason can’t stop thinking about the kiss and runs into Liz on the bridge. She can tell something is wrong. He saw Sam kissing John McBain. She is sorry. She knows how much he loves her. She thinks Sam is acting out of grief and Jason snaps. He does not want Liz to make excuses for Sam. He is sorry he yelled – Liz is the last person he should take things out on. She is better to him than he deserves. They kiss, but then he apologizes for taking advantage of her. Not that he needs it, but she forgives him. She still thinks Sam is grieving it would be a mistake to act out. He is glad Liz is there and she is too. She knows when things fall apart it is not one sided. She wants him to have time to heal and leaves.
Michael and Starr kiss under the fireworks at the Quartermaine estate, He pulls away and apologizes. He could not help himself. But neither could she. She knows she was giving him mixed signals, but she is not sorry she kissed him. She thought of him last night and again when she woke up. He knows she is not ready to be with him, but being friends is a lot harder than he expected. Maybe they shouldn’t spend as much time together. Starr feels right is being with him. Maybe they give it a shot and decide to go on a no-pressure date. They hold hands and walk off.
Johnny and Carly are making out at the casino when Todd walks in. He is there to buy out Starr’s contract. He thinks a strong, sexy, savvy woman like Carly is deluded when it comes to Johnny. She is mad he came to Johnny’s place of business to insult him, but Johnny has been offended by worse. He is not intimidated by Todd, but Todd thinks he should be. In this last year he has killed two family members in cold blood. He is as bad as it gets. Everyone is motivated by self interest, and he wonders what Johnny’s is. It is his shot at redemption. He used to exploit people but he is through with that life. Todd can’t believe Carly is buying this. Johnny will return to form sooner rather than later. Todd knows he has a secret, and Johnny guesses Todd has one too. The contract is not for sale. If Johnny hurts his friend Carly or Starr, he is coming after him. He leaves and Johnny wonders if Carly considers Todd to be a friend and she agrees - a bit. But the last thing he needs is a war with Todd.
At home, Patrick asks Lulu and Maxie to spit it out and Maxie accuses him of being on drugs. He denies it is anything more than aspirin, but Lulu tells him they looked up the drug code and know it is an amphetamine. He gets really mad, but Lulu wants to know why he is lying. He claims he has ADHD and Lulu wants to see some proof. He does not have any. He is not a junkie, he just needs something to get thought the day. Lulu tells him that the time is lost with Emma if he is on drugs. He can stop now and it is over or keep taking them and it is worse. He hands over the pills and goes to bed. Lulu wants Maxie to be realistic. People don’t get over drugs that easy.
Anna is outside the shack while Luke is inside yelling. The cops are excavating the land and find Anthony’s decomposed body. Anna asks everyone to keep quiet about this until they make an arrest. She wants to check out the shack but the cop tells her it the dogs are barking because it could be a dead animal and she leaves.
