Carly finds Johnny and Connie, McBain has gifts for Sonny and Sam tap dances around the McBain issue.

McBain stops by Sonny's house. Max answers the door. John gives him a gift for Sonny, which is a framed copy of the article about his sister. Max wonders what it means. McBain says it will mean something to his boss. The gift giving isn't over as McBain hands Max a search warrant and heads upstairs. A worried Ewen shows up looking for Kate, but Max tells him she's out with Sonny. Ewen demands to know where they are, but Max ushers him out. McBain returns downstairs and tells Max to make sure Sonny knows he stopped by.

Carly greets Michael at Sonny's party and asks where the birthday boy is. She then walks over to Sam and the women get into it about Carly's meddling. Meanwhile, Jason is none too happy to hear Alexis bring up McBain's name. He wants to know when Sam talked to him. Jason walks over to Sam and Carly. After Carly gets in more catty comments, she walks away. Jason asks Sam about McBain. She tells him he came by Alexis', insisting it was all innocent. At the same time, Michael goes looking for Sonny, but finds the destroyed cake instead. He returns to the main room and tells Carly about the cake. He's worried, but Carly just thinks Kate did it after getting in a fight with Sonny. Carly thinks it's fine and then leaves. Michael assumes she's going to see Johnny, but doesn't really want to know. Michael and Alexis interrupt Sam and Jason. After Michael tells Jason about the cake and that Sonny is missing, Jason leaves with his nephew. Alexis wonders why Jason would leave his pregnant wife. Sam yells at her mother for telling Jason about McBain. Alexis tries to explain what happened and reminds her daughter since she doesn't know what's going on she doesn't know what secrets to keep. Sam promises her worried mother that everything will be okay. Sam heads to the terrace and talks to her baby. She looks to the sky and asks for a sign that everything will be okay. She turns around and sees John McBain.
Jason and Michael stop by Sonny's house and learn McBain came by with a federal warrant. Jason recalls Sam telling him she used a contact at the FBI to get Franco's DNA. Jason can't believe Max let John search the house alone, but Max explains Dr. Keenan came by. Jason takes off to find out what's going on.
Jason walks off the hospital elevator and sees Liz. He asks about Ewen, but she says he's with a patient. He then shows her a photo of John and asks if he's the guy she saw Sam with the other day. Liz confirms.

When Sonny finds "Kate" and Johnny in bed, he demands to know what Johnny did to her. Johnny smugly responds, "What does it look like?" Sonny lashes out at Johnny, assuming he attacked "Kate," but she tells him she's right where she wants to be. She starts to cry as she tells him she's been having an affair with Johnny for months. Johnny says, "Hell of a birthday, huh, Sonny?" After more taunting from Johnny, Sonny pulls a gun on them. "Kate" pleads with him, but Sonny wants nothing more to do with her. He wonders who he should to shoot first. Carly knocks on the door downstairs and enters when no one answers. She hears a gunshot and races upstairs. Sonny passes her, as she sees Johnny and Kate in bed. Johnny tells a stunned Carly it's not what it looks like. Carly demands answers. As Johnny tries to come up with an explanation, "Kate" pushes Carly's buttons. After Johnny's had enough, he calls Kate Connie, as he tells her to shut up. Carly is left very confused.
