hi all. I understand your concerns about the OLTLer's coming aboard but IMO I think it may help the show. those fan who don't watch GH will tune in & the ratings will go up. John Mcbain is a great cop who actually solves crimes. PCPD could use him. I say take out the roach & bring in John. FROM.......hello friend. I know that that niner jab was for me. you funny man you. I'll talk to you monday. Go Niners

SCRIMMAGE....Believe me I know where you are coming from. I can only give you an example of what transpired at AMC. As the writing was on the wall they concentrated on "minor story lines and characters." As D-day approached (That's ABC code for DIE AMC BTW) most AMC posters were saying "it's the last week do something about wrapping this up." The rumor mill said that although there was a "happy ending" filmed Prospect Park talked someone into a cliff-hanger. AMC fans WERE NOT HAPPY with the ending at all - Trust me. Then Prospect Park proved to be fake gold and went kaput.
Again over on the AMC BOARD .....MAMAJJ reminded me that "FROM there IS no OFF TOPIC now - just say something about anything you wish" Some of the topics (mostly from me) is about the various conspiracy theories surrounding ABC, PROSPECT PARK and OLTL.....(in a fun sort of way -kinda)

    ********************OFF TOPIC************************

MAMAJJ...Yes...That WAS for your benefit....Now that I think about it every time I make a prediction about one of your teams it comes back to "bite me" and people seem to get a kick out of it. I don't know why ???? Is it my attitude ??? Do I bring it on myself ????? I AM a vet and deserve some respect.....

Fromthestart – I feel your pain. I wouldn’t mind if a couple of characters moved from Llanview to PC if it can be explained in a way that makes sense, and there is an obvious need for some better, more competent cops in the PCPD, but it would be too strange and extremely cumbersome if half the cast from OLTL just showed up on GH all of a sudden. How would they explain that? Maybe there was a nuclear plant in Llanview that melted down, rendering the town uninhabitable for 1000 years. That happens all the time right? … No? Then I’m stumped as to how they could logically explain a mass exodus from Llanview, Pennsylvania to a relatively obscure city like Port Charles in upstate New York. I looked it up and Llanview is supposedly a suburb of Philadelphia. Why would so many of them end up in PC instead of Philly? Maybe they could say it’s because they’re not Eagles fans. THAT would make sense.

While it may help to boost GH’s ratings in the short term, I don’t think incorporating the folks from another soap will be of any benefit to the show from a storyline perspective, and may actually have a negative effect. I only watched OLTL for a short time, way back when Asa Buchanan was the patriarch of his clan and a big mover and shaker on the show. He was always chewing up the scenery with his bluster and bigger-than-Texas personality, but he was the only character I found the least bit interesting, and I quit watching because the storylines never captured my interest. I recorded the last two episodes out of morbid curiosity I guess, just to see how they handled the end of the show and if they tried to wrap up loose ends, but I haven’t gotten around to watching them yet. I’ll probably have to if a bunch of them start showing up on GH.

bringing characters from another soap could be good, or bad like you all point out.

i hope good, but me feeling is it won't be. unless it is a story dictated thing. i think we will just have to see, IF this rumor is the truth.

skye chandlers character has been on i think most if not all the soaps. and i think it is always story dictated.

anyway, if this is all true, i hope someones hairbrained idea doesn't do GH in.

    jump the shark anyone?

i think the genre needs to look at the bold and the beautiful and see what those folks are doing right.

as a watcher of the bold and the beautiful (i started when sarah j. brown left GH--i was a claudia lover), let me point out some characterstics.

they follow up on their story lines. no danglers.

yes, some are stories are incredibly silly, but hey don't we need that?

then they turn around and do human interest story right out of the blue. to show they care.

only a few stories go on at once. easier for viewers to follow.

they have kept on their legacy actors.

they don't suddenly recast an actor out of the blue as a general statement.

and you don't wonder as a viewer, gosh i loved (megan ward), why in gods name did they do that?

    pay attention GH!

i myself have wondered why bold the the beautiful have wondered why recently they have won so many emmys. i though about it, and i know now.

    pay attention GH!

i am just saying as a former person who used to hold a job out in the world, before mommy-dom,

you follow and imitate the formula that is successful. so if i were on the team to
problem solve GH i would, other that bring on scrimmage as a writer, look at the bold and the beautiful.

Just ONE more thing before those NFL playoffs start....

PumpkinGirl....You may have hit the proverbial nail right on the head.....Have a major story line and "stick to it - don't drag it out until everybody loses interest." In AMC'S case they not only stretched it out beyond all reason they managed to throw in multiple uninteresting story lines as well. If "they" realized the story was going on TOO long they would end it abruptly which many times was no more satisfying.

    **********************OFF TOPIC*************************

MAMAJJ....IF your team should happen to win, remember I have a sensitive nature. IF, however, the SAINTS win I can make no such promises as I have gained the reputation of being a poor winner. I hope you understand.......

Posted by SammieQ at Saturday, January 14 2012 01:32 PM

Two reasons, imo, The Bold and The Beautiful is so successful is because they only have a 30 minute format - storylines move quicker; and their writers have been with the show since the beginning, hence consistency in storyline. Perhaps, GH could run in a 30 minute timeframe as opposed to a 60 min. one. I know with their large cast, it may be impossible to do same, but the pacing will be quicker and if we eliminate the insufferable storylines, i.e. Sonny and Kate back in Bensonhurt (didn't they have similar storylines with Megan Ward to much better effect 2 years ago?). I have read that Sonny will be in the thick of the plots when OLTL characters come over to GH. I also read on Soapzone that Luke/Tony Geary is planning retirement. This may be a way to incorporate the new characters to take over the absence of the Spencer's. Bring Bobbie and Laura back!

Scrimmage: I wasn't disagreeing with you about the characters coming from OLTL. I would rather Lexi come back or more Luke. I too like these characters. But, Luke is on only a few months a year now, and "Star" is also a good actress with a BIG following. The actress has been on since she was 6, like Robin.

As far as Franco being dead or alive, who knows.? As you said it's all a matter of individual interpretation . It's more likely he'll be back IF James Franco says he'll do it!

As to how 8 or so people can show up in Port Charles, that really wouldn't be too difficult.
Todd ( main character that is signed on already) is on the run with his lady, Blair who is already signed on. He has a half brother, Victor, also main character after him. John McBain cop is on the chase, Todd's lawyer needs to be called in, add a couple of Blair and Todd's kids and you have 8 or so people.

Go over to the OLTL board, there are many people very excited about this.
I would be too if it was GH that was gone and my fav's Sonny and Liz ended up in Lanview .

We just have to roll with it and hope for the best!

Posted by ransomha at Saturday, January 14 2012 01:51 PM

Another redeeming quality about Lanview is that it was multi-cultural . They had black FAMILIES, not just an extra here or there, they had a couple from India (would LOVE them to move to Port Charles!). That was a good thing that GH is missing. IMO
