Steve has news on Dante, Sonny and Kate reminisce, and Carly wants Shawn to open up.
Jason whisks Sam over the threshold of their Hawaiian honeymoon cottage. She wants him to rest, but he promises he is fine. She wonders if he would have found a way to love her again if he woke up as a different person. Their talk leads to his choice of work, but Sam knows how gentle he really is. They both get teary when admitting how much they count on one another. Jason isn't nervous about being married, but Sam worries it might change how they are, so she suggests setting a few ground rules. She wants deep meaningful conversations, like the one they are having. He wonders if she is disappointed he didn't get her a lei a the airport. She leaves to retrieve a surprise for him.
In Sonny's panic room, a hyper Carly wonders if a nonresponsive Shawn is having an episode. He suggests she try and clear her mind. He surmises that someone tried to frame Sonny for smuggling drugs and Dante discovered this, which resulted in his shooting. Carly helps him hide the drugs in an air vent, but thinks he is trying to avoid talking to her. The room begins to get hot, which makes Carly even more crazed. She wonders how Shawn can be so calm. He remains vague, but promises they will be fine. She surmises he is not good at accepting help, which might suggest he puts others ahead of himself. He continues to evade her. She laughs that she can play games better than him and asks if there is anyone in his life he misses. He admits he does. As she excitedly taps her heels on the floor, she triggers the panic room door open. The duo escape.
Steve finds a nervous Olivia and Lulu waiting in the hospital lobby for news on Dante. He informs them Dante has lung damage, but should be fine after a long road to recovery. Olivia thanks Steve for saving her baby, but Steve replies Dante is strong and made him look good.
Lulu goes to see Dante in his recovery room. She takes his hand and apologizes for pushing him away and making things hard on him. She tells him how lucky she is to have him. Dante begins to wake up and she cries that she is right there with him. He is awake long enough to smile at her before passing back out. Steve enters with Olivia to check Dante's vitals. Olivia tells Lulu she is the best medicine for her son and he knows how much she loves him. Lulu wants to stay with him, but Olivia wisely encourages her to go home and shower and be presentable for Dante when he wakes up. Lulu leaves and Olivia watches Dante sleep.
Kate surprises Sonny on the hospital terrace with coffee. They make small talk, which leads to discussion of his father. Kate wishes she spoke up on his behalf earlier. He credits her innocent face for giving him a reason to live. She lets her hair down and enjoys feeling nostalgic. He brings up how he shot Dante, and how Dante told him he hoped his kids would never see him the way he did. He begins to cry about how Dante is fighting for his life because he was shot in the same spot Michael was shot. Kate pulls Sonny in for a hug. Kate assures Sonny he is not responsible for Dante, but Sonny thinks he is dragging everyone down. Kate thinks he has to prove to everyone he is more than who his father thought he was. Olivia arrives with the news that Dante will be fine. Sonny asks Olivia to allow him to see her. She replies, "Of course, you're his father." Kate smiles at Sonny.
Abby brings coffee to Michael in the waiting room. He brings up the times that he was shot. Abby admits she knows that he and Sonny want to go after Johnny. Abby thinks the only thing they know for sure is that Sonny's world is dangerous. Michael angrily replies he doesn't need a lecture and intends to make whoever shot Dante pay!
The final ten minutes of General Hospital were interrupted by ABC special news report to announce the verdict of the Amanda Knox appeal.
