I may be in the minority but I enjoyed today's epi heart-break and all. What's the point of watching a show if it doesn't make you laugh or cry; if it doesn't tug at all your emotions? I like to laugh just like the next guy but I can also appreciate moments of agony and sorrow if acted out right. I have no complaints on what I have been watching the last couple of weeks. This is a period of sadness on GH but everything has it time and I expect to get periods of happiness later down the road. For now I don't mind connecting to the pain.

    Hello everyone:
Powerful scences today.I am not happy with any of Jake's death storyline and to boot Luke is the driver that hit Jake.GMAB.I always enjoy Luke and Lucky rapport now its tearing them apart with this storyline. It sucks. Sorry JMO
Nice to see Lulu giving Liz support when she really needs it.
Dante had too much mouth today.Telling everyone who hit Jake.
Too much depressing storylines.I want more Jason and Sam loving moments.I didn't enjoy Micheal and Abby love making today. It seems to be force and awkward but the second time seems to be a lot better for them.

I have to admit that at first I was upset about the possible assassination of Luke’s character. But after seeing his stellar performance today I changed my mind. This could be just the powerful storyline GH needs. I think it’s a challenge for AG . Maybe JJ and AG will make it less of the Jason/Carly show,. The scenes between Lucky and Luke today were so powerful. AG’s acting was phenomenal and JJ always makes me cry!
I agree with Scrimmage at the fact that Laura should have at least been mentioned. That is inexcusable.
    Loved the Mabby scenes.
Was it my imagination or did Carly’s eyes light up when Shawn said he was her new bodyguard???
Yes we may go away from GH feeling sad from time to time but life isn’t happy all the time either. I know it’s supposed to be an escape, but sometimes it makes me see how trivial some of my problems can be!!
I actually got chastised this weekend because I was told I need a life (which is prob true!) because I take GH way too seriously!!!

It must be just me. The show hasn't been depressing me at all. I think because to me, it's always on my mind that it's a show. I didn't even cry at all last week. I thought I would but didn't.

    Canadagirl, I like Shawn too!

Look, there’s no doubt that Anthony Geary will take this tragic development and make the most of it, but what bothers me is that this destroys an essential part of what make Luke LUKE, that is, his supreme self-confidence. He has always won against any foe he has ever faced (if you call not getting himself killed winning), and overcome every obstacle placed in his path because he trusted himself implicitly, and relied on his instincts, his quick mind, sound judgment, vast experience, and uncanny luck to see him through even the darkest of times.

Luke insists (and I agree) that although he may have been drinking, he was not significantly impaired, since he’s got a high tolerance for alcohol, and can function at a high level even when he’s been drinking because that’s his normal state. I would think it’s possible that he would’ve been more distracted if he hadn’t been drinking.

Now, regardless of the alcohol factor, Luke now has to face the fact that he DID hit a child and was completely unaware of it. How can he ever trust his judgment again, drunk OR sober? He acknowledges that “terrible, random things happen” and that for some things there is no explanation, but still, how can he ever forgive himself, or ever trust himself again? Without his overriding belief in himself, there IS no “Luke Spencer.” He’s just a mortal like the rest of us.

That’s the shame of it all. Just like Lucky and Lulu, I want… I NEED my “Luke Spencers” larger-than-life because that’s what a hero is supposed to be, and that’s what Luke has always been until now.

He will persevere as always, but he will never be the same, and neither will General Hospital.

    And for what?

Posted by Scrimmage at Monday, March 28 2011 10:12 PM

I can understand how some younger posters might only think of Luke as an eccentric old dude who drinks too much and who’s always running scams, acting like a clown, using horrible fake accents while wearing an array of silly disguises. To really understand Luke you must realize that he’s lived a life more full than ten men combined. As he’s gotten older Luke has settled down to a much less frantic existence than when he first arrived on the scene, eager to challenge authority and stir things up just tweak the sensibilities of the establishment. He’s reached the stage where he’s done his share of risk taking and had his heroic adventures, and now he’s enjoying life’s little pleasures, a good cigar, a little jazz or blues, and a stiff drink, all while occasionally pulling off a jewel heist or other scam, just to maintain his edge, but mostly for his own amusement. He feels he’s entitled to all this because he’s earned everything he’s got by hook or by crook, mostly the latter, but to the victor goes the spoils, and Luke has always been a winner. He should’ve been able to enjoy this time in his life.

Those of you who weren’t around to watch the show back when Luke and Laura (and the show) were at their height don’t remember the Luke that I do, the guy that deserved every bit of hero worship that his son Lucky heaped on him, the guy we caught a brief glimpse of today. There was nothing that Luke couldn’t do back then; we knew it, and everybody else on the show knew it too, whether they admitted it or not. Who else could’ve won the heart of the incredibly beautiful Laura Webber?

But a lot of you just probably think of her as Lucky and Lulu’s mom, and that’s okay too. Just remember, at one time both she and Luke were much, much more.

It seems like so long ago now.

This from SoapZone by Carol Banks Weber:

“Guza’s latest child-killing story hasn’t endeared him to fans who’ve had it. The disgust is so bad that NY Post’s Michael Starr wrote, “4-year-old's soap death enrages 'General Hospital' fans” for his March 23rd update.

In the update, he included GH fans’ complaints with the story, including one woman who asked why a family company like Disney approved of such an anti-family story to air on daytime. Of course a show spokesperson responded with the usual PR nonsense. ‘While the tragic death of Jake Webber brings unspeakable heartache to his family and all of Port Charles, this is a story of love and redemption in the face of devastating loss. More dramatic and life-altering moments will develop as the show moves forward.’ What does that mean, they’re gonna have baby Aiden tortured by random terrorists and then have his guts explode from some random neuro-toxin next? All for art, I gather. Well in that case…

This story of love and redemption in the face of devastating loss was its usual rushed, unrealistic slap in the face to real parents with real children suffering from real cancer and real hit ‘n runs. No preparation before a kidney transplant. An overturn of action and reaction in one day/one week. Everything pointing toward the propulsion of Jason and Sam, and their rumored miracle baby. Characters who’ve never cared or interacted to show they cared, suddenly dusted off and paraded out with their crocodile tears like Jake’s death mattered to them. Kristina blocking Abby from Michael in the midst of Josslyn’s kidney cancer scare, learning nothing from her own abusive past. Extended family – Quartermaines, Bobbie, Audrey – kept out of this all-important story to focus on the usual stage hogs and supercouple campaigns. Don’t insult our intelligence, ABC Daytime. This isn’t a story of love and redemption. It’s a way for the remaining actors to hold on to their jobs, some of those actors to get off on cheap emotional larceny, and TPTB to capitalize on terrorizing children for quick spikes in ratings.”

I swear I didn’t write that, but I agree with every word, except perhaps the criticism of the actors, and judging by the article she referenced there’s a lot of people who find this whole storyline objectionable.

Posted by ransomha at Tuesday, March 29 2011 03:58 AM I agree with you. MAY BE A SPOILER..........

In the comings and going, The "old" Emma is listed as going and the new Emma as coming. NO MENTION of the child who plays Jake. Why would that be?
