    Jake Is A Match.

    Tuesday, March 22 2011
Elizabeth gives her consent, Luke is there for Lucky, and Patrick comes home.

In the now cleaned up operating room, Robin apologizes to Patrick for holding on to his betrayal for so long. She loves him and she knows he loves her. If it was Emma who died tonight, she couldn’t have forgiven herself for all the time she wasted.

Outside Jake's hospital room, Lucky tells Siobhan he doesn't want his last memory of his son to be of him hooked up to machines. He sobs, as Siobhan reminds him Jake is not in any pain. She suggests he just sit by his bed and say what he needs to say. She'll be waiting for him in the hallway. Elizabeth walks up and Siobhan gives the parents some time alone. Elizabeth tells Lucky they don’t have to make any decisions right because she's not ready to let Jake go.

On the rooftop, Carly apologizes for springing her request on Jason, but Josslyn's life is on the line. Jason says it's not up to him, but he will talk to Elizabeth.

As Elizabeth is about to enter Jake's room, she stops to talk with Jason. He tells her about Josslyn's cancer and that she needs Jake's organs. Incensed, she slaps him. She reminds him that he walked away and never looked back. She and Lucky are the ones left with the hole in their lives. She says there is no way in hell Jason will use her son for spare parts. Elizabeth storms off, leaving Jason to look into Jake's room and cry. Lucky returns and Jason poses his request to him. Lucky knows Jason made the choice not to be a father to Jake in order to protect him. Lucky thanks him for giving him the opportunity to be Jake's father. Once Jason is gone, Elizabeth returns. Lucky tells Elizabeth there are many children who need transplants. He points out they can't save Jake, but they can save other children.

Jax and Alexis jump online in a hospital office looking for donors for Josslyn. Terrell walks in and tells Jax he talked to a specialist who concurs that Joss should start chemo. Jax still wants to look for a donor. Terrell warns finding one is slim at best. Carly runs in and tells them about Jake. Terrell says it's highly unorthodox, but if they're a match they can do it tonight.

Jason finds Carly in another part of the hospital and tells her Elizabeth won't allow the organ donation. Carly says she needs to make Elizabeth understand. Elizabeth and Lucky show up and tell her they signed the papers so Josslyn can have Jake's kidneys. Carly sincerely thanks them.

Terrell summons Lisa to the hub and tells her Jake is a match for Josslyn. He asks her to assist him in the surgery. She says she may be booted from the hospital tonight, but at least she can save a life first. Over at the elevators, Robin asks Patrick to come home with her so they can be a family again. He asks if she's sure and she replies the happiest she has even been has been with him and Emma. Lisa watches as they head out together.

Kristina visits Michael as he sits with Josslyn in her hospital room. Abby returns, much to Kristina's dismay. After getting word from the doctor, Michael steps out. Kristina tells Abby she isn't wanted there and accuses her of preying on Michael's vulnerability. Abby warns her against throwing around attitude, but she leaves in order to not make things worse for the family. Michael returns and tells Kristina they got good news. Carly and Jax join Michael to comfort Josslyn before she goes into surgery. Carly sees Jason in the hallway as Josslyn is taken to the O.R. She mouths the words thank you to him. He silently nods his head.

After some tense moments between the marrieds while waiting in the conference room for Josslyn's surgery to be over, Carly leaves to get some air. Alexis sits with Jax as he says he doesn’t know how to be happy that his daughter will be saved because another child died.

Jason enters Elizabeth's house and finds Jake's toy motorcycle. He tries to stifle his tears, but ultimately breaks down.

Nikolas bursts onto the Star to tell Luke he needs to be with his son right now. Luke doesn't think he has anything to offer Lucky right now. Nikolas orders him to step up and be a father for Lucky's sake. After Nikolas has left, Lucky boards the boat. Luke doesn't think there is a way back from the pain Lucky is going feeling and says he will have to learn to live with it. Lucky wonders what happens if he can't. Luke knows his son is able to love with everything he has. He is proud of him and proud that he took on two kids who weren't his biologically. Lucky credits Luke for that because he made being a father look like fun. He didn't know it was possible to love that much. Luke holds his son as he breaks down.

At the police station, Dante gives Sam a list of seven license plate numbers that went past the house when Jake was hit. She recognizes her plate number on the list. Sam is sick to her stomach thinking about this and Dante asks if her driving was impaired. She admits her steering wheel drifted off at one point. She suggests Dante have someone look at her car in the parking lot right now. They also learn Sonny, Robin, Lisa and Luke's plates are listed as well. Dante gets a call from forensics and learns Sam has been cleared in the accident. He then learns Carly is the last suspect.

    Lisa is under investigation.

I still don't know, how you can't tell you hit someone. My mother accidently hit a cat and we heard the thump.

Poor Elizabeth, I would be just like her. I would try to keep him on life support for as long as I could. But I also understand Carly. Pleading for the life of her daughter. I sure hope it wasn't Carly that hit Jake.

Elizabeth is hurting, but I knew she would do the right thing. She really does have a good heart. She just went loco for a moment when she cheated on Lucky. Lucky love those boys so much. I can't wait until he finds out that he really does have his own son.

How thoughtful of Jax not to let Alexis use her influence to push Josslyn to the top of the list. When you do good things, you get good things in return.

I still don't understand why they are only giving Josslyn one kidney. Are they giving the other one to another child in need?

The only bad part of the show today was of course that unruly child Kristina. She was getting on Abby, asking why is she there. She doesn't even know Josslyn. Kristina, you don't know her either. Abby is there for Michael because she is a good friend. Something you know nothing about. Go home, it's past your bed time. Get on your baby broom and fly away. I was mad at Abby for letting that twit run her off. People need to put that child in her proper place.

Robin and Patrick got back together today. That was good. Not for Lisa though.

Jason got to me on the end when he stumbled across Jake's toy and sat down and just cried.

While I’ve been keeping up with the show, I must admit with great difficulty I haven’t allowed myself to read the posts here lately because of the unusually high number of UNMARKED SPOILERS, and because I’ve reached a point where, despite previous spoilers, I don’t know what going to happen next. Being spoiler-free, naturally I want to keep it that way, but I also wanted to express my opinion on the current storyline as it has played out so far. Forgive me for the length of this post, as well as if I have repeated any other poster’s observations or do not respond to any comments about this post.

The preposterousness of the whole kidney cancer / transplant storyline as presented to us is practically insulting, and I think it would be an affront to anyone who has ever dealt with kidney disease or cancer, either personally or through a loved one.

While they obviously consulted a doctor (or maybe a medical reference book) for some of the terminology tossed around in the OR during Jake’s unsuccessful surgery, they must not have thought it was necessary to give Josslyn’s case the same consideration. I’m certainly no expert, but I don’t believe Josslyn would’ve been completely symptom free all this time, only showing signs once her cancer had reached an advanced stage. Her condition may be rare, but it just doesn’t seem possible that it could go from zero to stage five that quickly undetected while she remained asymptomatic. Secondly, why is Jax so adamant about not “poisoning” his daughter with chemo (a real comforting thought to ACTUAL cancer patients currently undergoing chemotherapy right now I’m sure), but he’s got no problems with her taking anti-rejection medication for the rest of her life? Even if they work as intended, those meds can adversely affect her ability to have children of her own as an adult, if she lives that long, something that Dr. Terrell failed to bring to their attention. Dr. Terrell is less than useless since I also heard no mention of dialysis, which would be among the first options if only a temporary one. Speaking of rejection, why would Carly assume that Jake and Josslyn, two unrelated children, are compatible tissue wise? Of course they will be, even though the odds against that are astronomical. It does happen in real life on extremely rare occasions, but almost never between families that know each other, unless there was some large scale accident with many fatalities and injuries all at once (like in a bus crash). That was NOT the case here as the two kids’ conditions were completely unrelated, which makes the timing all the more unbelievable.

I have stated many times that I have serious objections to the use of children simply as props, only to be trotted out so that they may be put in danger to provoke an emotional response in the audience. We hardly ever see those kids having a good time. When we DO see them - which is seldom since there seems to be a disproportional number of nannies (3) to married couples (0) raising the children on this show - they’re usually being kidnapped, shot, blown up, burned, beaten, raped, run over, stalked, or afflicted with some deadly disease which serves as motivation for other characters to act, reducing the children to mere plot devices. Most of the children on this show have no purpose other than that. Molly, and to a lesser extent Morgan and maybe even Cam are exceptions to the rule because they are actual characters with distinct personalities and characteristics, played by someone who can supposedly act. If Guza tried to kill off a character we are as familiar with as Molly, the uproar would be deafening, so instead, when he needs a sure-fire way to jolt the viewers into paying attention, he turns to his old standby of endangering a kid to do it and he chooses less controversial victims, first Ally, now Jake, since they have no appreciable fan bases to be outraged.

It’s apparent to me that this wasn’t a difficult decision for Guza at all because Jake’s death won’t really change anything in the show since he was the product of an essentially abandoned storyline, has been mostly superfluous since his birth, is too young to do even simple dialog, and was seldom on. His existence presented a complication and an obstacle to the idea of Jason and Sam having a child of their own since they couldn’t figure out how to reconcile Jason acknowledging one of his children but not both. Guza’s solution? Jake had to go.

I recognize that this is a drama set in a hospital and as such illnesses or injuries to children are to be expected from time to time, even fatal ones, but to kill off a child simply because it’s the easiest way to get the audience to respond emotionally in order to boost ratings and so that everybody can have these dramatic moments to cry and grieve is beyond callous and contemptible. And then to turn Jake’s obviously accidental death into a “whodunnit” involving many supposedly grieving characters adds another layer of poor taste to this whole disgusting storyline.

The remarkable cast has done an excellent job with the material they’ve been given, but based on a few of the actors comments I’ve read, several of them had questions and very diplomatically expressed reservations about this development. Many of them were uncomfortable knowing that these emotionally wrenching scenes were what they had to look forward to. Challenging? Yes! Difficult to play, especially for parents of small children? Definitely! Enough to make any of them object in these uncertain economic times and the unstable climate of firings, rehirings, and rumors of firings on GH? Not a chance!

As for the notion that there is some “redeeming value” or “awareness” that can be gained by Jake’s death, I can only say that accidents happen and no child can be protected completely 100% of the time. There is no use in pointing out the obvious; that in an ideal world, doors should be kept closed and toddlers shouldn’t be able to reach doorknobs, but this is far from an ideal world, kids are kids and parents aren’t perfect. I don’t think Guza’s plan behind this storyline was to spearhead a national “Closed Door Awareness Month” as a public service to combat a terrible epidemic of kids letting themselves outside so they could go play in traffic, but he’ll probably CLAIM that was the reason, because THIS is NOT entertaining.

Now I’m going to watch today’s show on my DVR so I can FF through all the previews and commercials. Those aren’t entertaining either. I hope to be able to come back and be able to read and respond to all your comments as soon as things settle down a bit on the show and here on the board.

They killed Jake off so they could cut all ties between Elizabeth and Jason. To bad Elizabeth did not see what a loser Jason really is before her son died. Carly was right she and her son Michael are Jason’s priority.I have no interest in wacthing Sam confort Jason over Jake’s death. This is the same woman who watched a grief stricken woman walk off with the boy and then hired two men to point loaded guns at the same child and his mother.

To add insult to injury you are going to cut Jake up to save Carly’s daughter. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want either child to die. I am just sick of Elizabeth having to be the one to step up and TPTB treat her like trash. You know if it was Jake that was sick and Joss that was brain dead Carly would not so what she and Jason are asking Elizabeth to do.

General Hospital is to me what Guiding Light is off the air.

Kudos to Liz. She made a quick decision. One thing that I have always liked about GH is that they move storylines along. That's not to say that some don't wear out their welcome, but compared to other Soaps, GH wraps up pretty fast.

Jason crying as well as Lucky is just too painful to see.

I would like to remind Liz that she asked Jason to walk away from Jake. Jason had asked if they could do a joint custody agreement, but she said NO that his life was too dangerous.

I had an epiphany yesterday. I had always said Jason shouldn't have kids because his life was too dangerous...but I now see you can just get hit by a car and die as easily as a bullet. Jason missed 3 years of his only child's life and he can never get that back. I feel sorry for him. so even though he tried to protect his kid, Jake still had a shorter life than Michael, Morgan etc.

Again, I ask, why dangle Franco in our face if he is not involved in anything substantial?

Robin, must it take tragedy for you to appreciate what you have? Whatever, I am glad you and your husband will start afresh.

So Mrs. Balkan comes clean, now? Can't want to see grandbaby balkan/stepson Corinthos

I am officially done with GH. Not only have they killed off another Quartermaine, this make about 5 that have died in the last 6 years. Soaps are all about the history, the families, GH- has one family left the Spencers. We no longer have the Webbers or Quartermain as main characters, even with Robin, the Scorpios are not written as they should be. But my biggest issue is that the Jake scenes only lasted two days. Give me a break, we had to live thru Sonny, Brenda, Carly and Jason’s drama for weeks at a time. And poor Jake gets less than a week. Guza and the TPTB are the worst writers in daytime, they are recycling stories from the past, but the scenes are lacking consistency and flow. It was all rushed.

I do not understand, why every story line has to do with Sonny, Carly or Jason. WHY? the actors that play Liz and Lucky are amazing and they should have written more than just two days at the hospital. (In one day he has surgery and dies). I hope that Liz and Lucky are shown mourning and it is not all about Jason. They could have given Jason a baby with Sam without killing off Jake, when you have no imagination, this is what happens.

I was reading the posts from the weekend, and I think the fans have come up with better story lines than the writers. I hope that this story is about Franco and that Jake is actually alive. I know that is too much to ask for, but I would return as a fan if that were the case. There is one positive thing from all of this, all the actors have done an incredible job, considering the writing was awful.

I am so disappointed as a fan for over 20 years.

CBF: I think that they are going to give his other kidney to another child as the list is so long and it's rare to have donors for children. Also, glad that Jax didn't agree to let Joss be moved up the list. Abby is too nice, she didn't want the tension there when Carly and Jax got back. How thoughtful but I do wish that someone puts that brat in her place. She is her father's child. She thinks that she can say and do whatever she wants just because she's Sonny's kid and has always got away with whatever she did. Maybe step-granny needs to come teach her some manners or lock her in the dungeon at windermere.

I was in tears for the whole hour. I could understand where both mothers were coming from and Lucky's conversation with Jason was so touching. So glad that Sam was ruled out as the driver that hit baby Jake.

Scrimmage: welcome back! You were missed.

Steve Burton is an amazing actor. With an eye movement or hand gesture he conveys so much emotion.

On another note, I have long disliked the character Elizabeth. RH plays her well, but the way the character is written...what she said to Jason was unforgivable when he brought up Jake's possible organ donation. She has always been so selfish and for him to call her a good mother. Hah!

If I remember correctly, she was happy to receive money from Jason for Jake and she also only agreed for Jason to abandon thoughts of fatherhood because she had Lucky standing by.

BTW, how many times have Elizabeth's children been in jeopardy because she is inattentive. Many times. Case of someone who definitely never puts her children first.

Posted by velvetmom at Tuesday, March 22 2011 01:50 PM

OMG - Steve Burton is amazing. He can show so much emotion with his silence. I cried when he cried over Jake's toy motorcycle.

Elizabeth always does the right thing. I can't imagine how hard that would be. Lucky, Luke, everyone put in such performances today. Jax - when he said I don't know how to be happy for my daughter when another child has died.

    Robin and Patrick...about time!

Lisa - you lose - go to Johnny...

Ugh, Kristina...if I didn't know better I would say she has the hots for Michael and wants him for herself. Stand your ground Abby - because you are who and what Michael needs. Age is just a number - its the feelings that matter. (incidentally, I'm 10 years older than my honey and it's alright).
