Monday, August 31 2009

Updated August 31:

In case you weren’t able to watch the Daytime Emmys, or if you just want to watch it again, here is a video clip of Julie Berman’s acceptance speech for Outstanding Younger Actress.

Originally posted August 30:

The Daytime Emmys were given out on August 30 and General Hospital received honors in two categories.

Julie Berman won Outstanding Younger Actress for her portrayal of Lulu Spencer and the show itself won for Outstanding Writing.

Although they didn’t win any awards, Anthony Geary (Luke) and Kelly Monaco (Sam) were on hand to present clips from their trip with Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC) and Montel Williams to Africa with Feed the Children.

Soaps.com congratulates Julie and the writing team at GH for their Emmy wins! For a list of other winners, read our live blog from the awards show here.

So Julie Berman won an award for Outstanding Younger Actress--WHY?
Don't misunderstand me. Julie holds great promise--when she is given something to do rather than be a clothes mannequin.
So sad that the writers haven't kept her true to her character--a tough, stubborn Spencer with shade to her developing young adulthood.
Maybe with her award as leverage, she can demand a meatier part--but, whoa--if she asks too much they might just punish her like that did her "mother" Genie Francis--and throw her uncerimoniously (no pun intended!) off the show and blacklist her forever so that she will not be given a chance to develop her talent--which she obviously has abundance of--we saw that early on and last summer when she and Genie Francis had a chance to inter-"act."
