Interview : Jackie Zeman! (Bobbie GH)

    Friday, January 19 2007

She's "ready, willing and wanting!" (ABC)
Hey Cupid! Why Not Point That Arrow On Someone Older Than Forty?

With so much emphasis recently on the Jason/Sam/Elizabeth triangle, General Hospital Editor Julie Clark Robinson thought it would be interesting to give readers a viewpoint on more mature characters and their romantic potential. You know what that means; she went to her favorite leading lady Jackie Zeman!

Recently did a poll asking fans which veteran character they'd most like to see with a major storyline and guess who won by a landslide? Bobbie Spencer! How do you feel about that?

I feel excited and honored and would like to thank the people who voted for Bobbie.

Knowing soaps (the way we all do!), a major storyline is almost always synonymous with romance. The last time Bobbie had a date as far as we can remember was with Jerry Jacks. Do you think she is ready to try again?

Ready, willing and wanting. Jerry Jacks is the man who seems to have it all. As a viewer I think it would be exciting to see Bobbie with someone sooo terrific. When a mature woman finds a great romantic partner it reminds all of us that our only limitation is our own imagination. We can have it all and I would be thrilled, as Bobbie, to be an example of this.

What do you think a "mature" character's romantic storyline offers soap fans?

Life is filled with all kinds of amazing possibilities. "First times" are always an adventure. Most women find excitement and pleasure in the "first times" motherhood presents to us. Once our children are grown we have to relearn how to live our lives with joy and passion and inspiration. The happiest, most successful people I know are those who are open to change and are willing to explore the possibilities. It takes desire and courage to modify and change behavior patterns. But the results can be enormously rewarding. Albert Einstein once said "Insanity is continuing to repeat the same behavior and expecting to get different results." We, in daytime, have an opportunity to explore this concept in a way that can be inspirational and therefore of great value to our viewers.

I'm sure you realize that GH has a LOT of fans who are fiercely interested in Jason's love life. What do you think a romance that involves older characters can offer these fans?

We can all learn from experience. No matter what age we are, we continue to grow. Life is a series of chapters and as we enter each one there is always something new to learn. Discovery is never boring and I believe that soap viewers are deeply affected by the emotional connection and the mutual memories they share with the characters. As a long-time soap fan I know I am.

Jerry Jacks really had Bobbie's attention. (ABC)

When Noah came back to Port Charles, we had our fingers crossed that he and Bobbie would rekindle some of that magic they had before. Didn't happen. Now that Scotty will be back for a while, we're hoping to see some sparks fly there. The character who came in 2nd on our poll was Robert Scorpio. He and Bobbie would have all kinds of fun together. Who would you like to see Bobbie with for a while?

Why shouldn't Bobbie date them all! Wouldn't that be fun?! And it would be awesome to have Jerry Jacks back on screen to add to the romance and drama.

On a side note, since we apparently have no choice but to bid Alan Quartermaine (and the ever-handsome Stuart Daman!) a fond goodbye, can you share with us one of your favorite storylines? Bobbie even had a bit of a romantic storyline with him at one pointthe little devil!

Stuart is soooo an actor, a co-worker, a friend, and a family man...he excels at everything he does. Bobbie and Alan almost had an affair years ago. We made it onto the bed in a hotel room and "came to our senses" while we still had most of our clothes on. I don't know why the writers changed their minds about the story. It was exciting to work with him. I felt lucky at the time.

There are endless possibilities in the storylines-- just as there are in real life. I guess that's one of the reasons why we all love our soaps!

Thank you Jackie, for giving readers an inside look at your valuable insights. "Endless possibilities" are one of the reasons we all love our Bobbie Spencer, too! She's been the girl from the wrong side of the tracks, a neurosurgeon's wife, a grieving mother, a firecracker of a sister, a red hot lover, and Mother of The Year for forgiving Carly after stealing her husband! Let's hope the GH writers realize what potential there is here and let Bobbie dust off her little black dress for some dates! would like to thank Alessandro Giannotto and his site WWW.GENERALHOSPITAL.TV
for generously sharing his vintage photo.

i really don't like bobby's charcter she should bring her wild side back!!!!!

Yes, it would be nice to have an older woman like Bobbie have an affair with Noah again. Perhaps somehow Patrick could be Bobbie's son????who knows???

Also, Jason and Liz together is a dumb idea. Jason will always think of Liz as a friend and Liz belongs with Lucky.

Ric is acting way too evil for my tastes. I don't think he would hurt Christina the way he is. Christina is also his blood relative. Shellie

i think gh should have a murder mystery and ric be the one who is murdered. he has angered alot of people in pc and he could anger alot more. ric has gone down hill so badly that it seems the writers are doing whatever they can to keep him going. murder his butt, no one deserves it more than ric!!!

it makes me feel old, talking about the veterans.....i'd love to see more stories that include all of the gh cast!!

Boy, I really feel old. It sure brings back great memories. Gloria Monty, you were and still are a tough act to follow. Hope you're smiling down from wherever you are. While I think a rekindled romance with Noah isn't likely, (Rick Springfield being so busy). I'd love to see Scotty and Bobbie since they have unfinished business.

Wouldn't it be cool if Bobbie started dating her daughter's boyfriend Jax. Kind of reminisent of when Carly had the affair with Bobbie's husband, Tony?
