Monica arrived on the Port Charles scene in 1976 and had romances with Rick Webber, Alan Quartermaine and Jeff Webber. But before them, she fell in love with David Langston. They became engaged, but David was drafted and sent to fight in Vietnam. He was quickly presumed dead, as Monica learned she was pregnant. Monica decided to put her daughter up for adoption to focus on her medical career.
Dawn Winthrop came to town in 1989 revealing that she was the daughter Monica gave up years ago. She became a nurse at General Hospital and fell in love with Ned Ashton. The two became engaged, but on their wedding day, Dawn learned her new found mother once had an affair with Ned.
Feeling betrayed, Dawn left town with gambler Decker. She eventually returned and forgave her mother, but not Ned. She had their marriage annulled. Decker made his way back to town as well and the two were happy until con artist Edge came after Dawn's money.
Edge, Dawn and Decker were trapped inside a club by old enemies. The club was set on fire, but Edge managed to free himself. However, he knocked Dawn and Decker out with a lead pipe. Decker survived the ordeal, but Dawn sadly died.
Monica has had a tragic history with all of her children. Happily, one of her presumed sons A.J. was recently revealed to be very much alive. Are you enjoying this latest twist? Share your thoughts on Dawn's death and A.J.'s return below.
