Starr makes Michael breakfast at his place again. He appreciates it but has to run off to meet AJ about ELQ. She wants to tell him something first. She thinks AJ goaded Sonny because he knew Michael was coming by when he saw his text. She thinks AJ is trying to drive a wedge between him and Sonny. Michael doesn’t buy it. He thinks she just sees the worst in people. He accuses her of being put up to this by Sonny. She only told him because they promised to be open. He apologizes. This is the anniversary of when Abby died. He misses her and now with Jason gone he is glad Starr is in his life. Later, Starr looks over a picture of Cole and Hope alone and is interrupted by Johnny.
Starr gets AJ to the hospital. He regrets Michael seeing Sonny beat him but Starr isn’t buying it. She knows he is manipulating Michael and wanted Sonny to look like the bad guy. AJ finds that interesting coming from someone who almost shot him. He did his homework on her and tells her to cut the crap. Liz returns and AJ asks Starr to get his bag at the gym before Sonny torches it. Alone, AJ tells Liz he has changed. They talk about Jason and she apologizes for being mean to him. He gives her a picture of him and Jason together and she asks him to stay away from Sonny. Later, she looks at the picture and cries.
At the gym, Sonny admits to Shawn that he let AJ get to him. Sonny wonders about AJ’s motives. It was like AJ wanted him to beat him. Connie arrives and Shawn offers to boot her. Sonny wonders if she is done playing with little boys and wants to find out what a real man is like. Connie tells Shawn to take a walk. She is scouting a location for a shoot. She is going to put herself on the cover of every issue like Oprah. She needs as boxer with real moves and Sonny volunteers. Sparks fly. Outside, Starr questions Shawn about the fight. She finds AJ’s phone with Michael’s text on it and is convinced it was a setup. Later, Shawn shows Sonny the text Starr found. She is on her way to tell Michael now.
Michael meets Starr at the hospital. Before she can tell him about the text AJ comes out of his room. Michael tells him his stock is in a trust and he can’t back AJ. AJ still wants him to work at ELQ and Michael agrees. Starr looks uneasy.
At his place, Michael tells Starr about AJ’s release. He is worried about his parents hating AJ and vice versa. Starr understands. He just wants his parents to back off. His parents aren’t good at respecting boundaries and is worried about their reaction to AJ’s release. Starr thinks Michael needs to reassure Sonny about his feelings for him. Michael can’t get in touch with AJ and decides to find him at the gym.
Sonny and Shawn spar at the gym. Alexis gets a call to help Robert and runs into Val Chmerkovskiy on her way out. He asks her out and she would love to, but she is seeing someone. Later, AJ arrives and brags that Diane got him off. It is so great to be able to go anywhere he wants. He asks if Shawn is Jason’s replacement. Sonny calls AJ an all around dirtbag. AJ and Sonny fight about Michael. AJ tells him there is enough room in his life for both of them. Sonny challenges AJ to a few rounds and he agrees. While AJ suits up he sees a text from Michael saying he is coming over. He hops in the ring and antagonizes Sonny until Sonny starts pummeling him. Michael runs in and sees the beat down. He doesn’t even know who Sonny is anymore.
At home, a shirtless Michael tells Starr that AJ may go free. He talks about how hard prison was. They kiss and things get heavy. He doesn’t want to pressure her but she wants this. Suddenly Carly won’t stop knocking. Starr finally answers while Michael gets dressed. Carly apologizes for calling the cops on AJ. She hopes he can forgive her for not respecting his wishes. He forgives her and hopes she can understand why he will join the board at ELQ with AJ. She can’t hold back about what a mistake that would be. She guesses the first order of business is to force Tracy out. Can’t he see AJ is using him? His shares are in a trust until he is 25 and she will not release them. Michael throws her out.
At his place, Johnny tells Starr what Connie has on him is really bad. She guesses he murdered Anthony. It makes no sense why he would do it – unless it was as revenge for Cole and Hope’s death! He must be going through hell because of her. On her way out she sees her CD and comments they made a good team. He agrees.
At Kelly’s Spin asks Maxie about her doctor’s appointment. She snaps at him, but he rubs her back and tells her he will always care as Ellie comes in. She is not there to talk about their relationship. She knows Maxie had her first shot and it can make people irritable. Todd arrives and pulls Spin away from them. He wants to hire them to find Molly’s manuscript. Spin refuses because of what he did to Sam and Jason. Todd wonders why people keep harping on that. Meanwhile, Ellie hopes Maxie can count on her too. This doesn’t have to be a competition. Maxie disagrees. She and Spin are for a lifetime and will get back together. Later, Molly and TJ arrive and talk about their plan to find the manuscript. Todd runs into Starr outside. She tells him she saw Johnny and kind of feels bad for him. "This day sucks," he says as has he stomps off. Starr joins TJ and Molly inside and agrees Connie must have it.
Connie marks up Molly’s manuscript at Johnny’s apartment. He is surprised to see her and wishes he had changed the locks. She thought they had a moment when she made him a sandwich but his only concern was that she would come back. Why couldn’t she have just stayed gone? She tells him to lay off or she will tell everyone the truth about him killing Starr’s kid. Suddenly Starr knocks and demands the manuscript back. Connie secretly grabs the book and leaves. Alone, Johnny tells Starr that Connie is blackmailing him. He did not want this life but he had no choice. She demands to know what Connie has over him.
